Confident Individuals

Our younger children in the Sunshine Room have settled well into their new Nursery year and are experiencing a wide range of activities both indoors and outdoors. We love them joining the older children in the outdoor area where their confidence has grown considerably, their visits to the Rainbow Room are a great opportunity to interact with a wide circle of children and they are becoming increasingly independent in their own area of the Nursery. We hope that you enjoy this little gallery of our increasingly confident little children from the Sunshine Room.

Maths Is Everywhere

One of Dumfries and Galloway’s RAiSE (Raising Aspirations in STEM Education) team has been looking at our post about Maths Week Scotland.

“Maths really is everywhere! Love your idea of creating a display of all the shapes and numbers you can find. Please don’t keep it to yourselves – share it on the Full STEM Ahead Yammer group and let other teachers see the great work you’re doing.
Keep up the great maths learning,
Regards
Mrs C Moyes
D&G RAiSE Teacher”

We are hoping that the children are still looking for numbers and shapes in our community as we would love examples for our display.

What Are Our Rules?

The children have realised, through discussion, that rules are very important to keep everyone safe and happy. Here they are demonstrating our rules so that we can display them in Nursery as a reminder for everyone. I wonder who can remember the rules to tell their families at home?

Maths Week Scotland

Thank you to those families who have taken part in Maths Week Scotland by bringing in examples of numbers and shapes in their environment. It is lovely to see the children sharing their learning with us. We hope that lots of you are looking for numbers and shapes out in our community and will be bringing us pictures, cuttings, photos etc. to add to our display.

What Rules Should We Have?

Over the first few weeks of term we have been talking to the children about what rules we should have in Nursery and why so thought we would share some of their ideas.
Alisha: don’t put stickers on your face.
Archie: be good. Don’t run, just walk.
Cody: no pushing ’cause someone could bang their head.
Jasmin: no kicking.
Emilia B: we need to tidy toys.
Leo: we might trip if there’s stuff on the floor.
Finlay: we need to tidy up if it’s a mess.
Jack: no running. You might trip.
Remy: no pushing ’cause it’s not nice.
Emily M.: no shouting ’cause we can’t hear you.
Jessica: no shouting.
Kendall: you’ve got to walk.
Emily B.: you might hurt yourself if you run.
Layla: no running.
Leah: no hitting. We are friends.

We think that the children have put their thinking brains into action with these ideas. Well done boys and girls.

Clever Gardener

After planting beans with Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, last term the children involved took home their beans to look after them. They talked about what they would have to do to help them grow and one clever little gardener brought in the results of his hard work to show us this week. Very well done! We think that you have done a fantastic job looking after your beans. Thank you for bringing it in to show us.

Muddy Chocolate Cake

Alisha’s family has been looking at the photos of the children playing in the mud kitchen:

“Alisha told me she was making chocolate cake for all her friends. She loves getting all muddy .”

The chldren certainly make a lot of cake in that kitchen and love being creative outdoors. Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment.

Family Learning

Last week’s Family Learning activities were the first of the year and Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, enjoyed meeting new parents with their children as well as some that she got to know last year.
With her “Rhyme Time” activities, Eileen was matching the Nursery’s planning as she sent everyone a little home activity whether or not they attended her sessions. Here is a snapshot of some of our families joining in with the Family Learning sessions. We hope that everyone who took part enjoyed the sessions and look forward to more activities soon. Thank you very much to Eileen for organising a fun activity for all.

Settling In

Roman’s family has been looking at our recent photos:

“Glad Roman has settled in really well so pleased”

It’s great to hear that the children are happy which makes for happy families too. Thank you so much for visiting our blog and taking the time to leave us a comment. We look forward to hearing from more of our families soon.
