Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, sent us photos from today’s family activity, saying “We had lots of fun today at our elephant themed story/rhyme time.”
This looks like great fun. Please remember that all are welcome every Tuesday from 9.00 until 9.45 or 12.15 until 1.00, including younger brothers and sisters. Eileen hopes to see you there soon.

Come And Play
As mentioned in our newsletter, we like to invite parents and carers to have fun by staying to play. A grid is displayed in Nursery (on top of the red and blue tray unit) so please add your name if you can join us for a whole or part of a session. The children would love you to be part of our play and what better way to find out the answer to “What did you do in Nursery today?”
Marshmallow Toasting
We would like to share these photos from the end of last term. There seemed to be so much happening at the end of term that we didn’t manage to post these at the time but we thought that you would like this little gallery of marshmallow toasting with the afternoon children.
Our Hours
As there seems to be a little confusion now and again over our hours, we would like to clarify that there is a soft start in the morning from 8.45 until 9.10. All morning children finish at 11.55 and afternoon sessions begin at 12.15. We then have a soft end to the day with children being collected between 3.00 and 3.25. Those who have an all day session should finish at 3.05. We hope that this is helpful to everyone.
Pumpkin Investigation
It wouldn’t be Hallowe’en without investigating a pumpkin and some of the children had a busy time last week emptying the flesh and seeds from their pumpkin. Both morning and afternoon children had a great experience investigating what they found inside their pumpkin, discussing safety around sharp knives, counting seeds and talking about how to describe what they could see and feel. Great fun was then had decorating their empty lanterns. It’s amazing the learning you can have from one simple pumpkin.
Word Of The Week
Our “Word of the Week” for this week is safe as we talk about Bonfire Night, fireworks and staying safe near a fire.
Hallowe’en Fun
Witches, skeletons and a few superheroes arrived in Nursery yesterday for Hallowe’en. Thank you to all those who helped their children play the part – here are some photos we managed to capture of some of their super outfits. Watch out for photos in the local press too.
Making Ghosts
With all the wonderful outfits arriving in Nursery for Hallowe’en we thought that we should have a special snack so some of the children got busy, icing biscuits to turn them into tasty ghosts. They certainly seemed to go down a treat with everyone so well done those busy little bakers in the kitchen.
Are You Ready For Hallowe’en?
The children have been getting in the Hallowe’en spirit this week. They have painted flames to make a fire for our witch’s house, have been discovering what’s inside her house and trying out a few spells on their friends. Remember you can dress up tomorrow for Hallowe’en if you would like. I wonder if we will see lots of monsters and witches in Nursery?
Welcome
This week we have welcomed Miss Shelley Palmer to our Nursery. She is in her third year of a B.A. in Childhood Studies at UWS. Initially Miss Palmer will be here for around two weeks then she will return next term to continue her placement with us. We wish her well and hope that she enjoys her time with us.
