Vegetable Art

The children in the Rainbow Room have been experimenting with lots of different tools to paint lately and learning that you don’t need a paintbrush to produce a work of art. Carrots, peppers, onions and potatoes provided opportunities to experiment in the art area last week and the children seemed surprised to find them effective at producing interesting pieces of artwork.

Imagination And Creativity

Outdoor play provides such great opportunities to develop so many skills in many areas of the curriculum and some children simply relish those opportunities every day. As you can see from this recent snapshot of one day in the Rainbow Room outdoor area, they show great imagination and creativity in the range of resources they discover in their play.

Snowmen

Some of the children in the Raindrop Room decided to draw snowmen recently inspired by all their discussions about the weather and seasons. We think that they showed good control in their drawings and would like to share this little gallery to give you a taste of their work.

Jack Frost

As part of their discussions about Winter, the children in the Rainbow Room read a book about Jack Frost and shared some of their ideas of what he is like.

Oscar: he’s blue. He puts things on the windows.
Aoife: he freezes and makes ice and snow. He lives in the North Pole.
Jacob: he looks like ice. He’s a spiky iceberg.
Arthur: He looks like a cloud. He eats grass.
Letti: he draws on the windows.
Freddie: he’s cold.
Lewis: he’s white with spikes on him like a leaf.
Alex W.: Jack Frost eats carrots.
Isla: he eats ice-cream. He melts by water.
Tiana-Rose: Jack Frost eats soup.
Ava: Jack Frost looks like snow, so sparkly and white.
Emily: he has a hat, gloves, coat and some boots.

What wonderful ideas boys and girls. Jack Frost has certainly been very busy lately.

Burns Day

On Friday we celebrated Burns Day with shortbread, tattie scones, oatcakes, cheese and, of course, Irn Bru. In true tradition some of the children even had a little taste of haggis, neeps and tatties and tried out some Highland dancing which was great fun. We appreciate our families making a super effort to provide the children with ‘a touch o’ tartan’ – we thought that they looked wonderful.

Great New Building

Emilia’s family has left us a lovely comment about our new Raindrop Room:

“What a great new building at Hecklegirth Nursery, very welcoming. there’s lots of space for all sorts of activities; great little puppet theatre. The staff have done wonders with it in the short time it has been open. A lot of good ideas and hard work involved to achieve it. Looking forward to seeing the garden when your little helpers get into it. Well done everybody”

Thank you so much for your kind comments. They are greatly appreciated. We continue to develop our Nursery and look forward to it evolving as time passes.
