Some of the children from the Raindrop Room paid a visit to the school nature area recently. Armed with clipboards, pictures and a lot of excitement they headed off to look for signs of Spring. The children were delighted to find the beginnings of Spring in evidence, finding some daffodils and buds on plants, but we think that the weather needs to get a little warmer before we can say it really feels like Spring.
We would like to remind you that tomorrow, March 15th, is Red Nose Day and children can wear their pyjamas and/or crazy hair to raise money for Comic Relief.
As well as the children learning about the weather and how to record it, they also have great fun enjoying all weathers in outdoor play. It is difficult to resist a great big puddle so this little group decided to investigate it when they spotted it in the school playground. Who needs sunshine to enjoy outdoor play? This puddle paddling was much more fun.
Weather watching is very popular in both rooms in our Nursery. Wind socks, thermometers and rain gauges are checked on a daily basis and the children’s findings are recorded. The children have used the camera to record evidence on their equipment and have begun to record temperatures on charts, developing independence, taking on responsibilities and developing their numeracy skills.
A performance area has been created in the Raindrop Room recently as the children have shown enthusiasm for forming little bands and using the microphones to perform to their friends. Here is a snapshot of the stage and audience one morning recently. As you can see, we have no shortage of enthusiastic performers and the children also enjoy being an audience.

Children’s imagination and creativity never cease to amaze us. These photos captured the play of a little group who decided to make their own fire engine immediately after our recent fire practice. They used materials in the garden to create their own engine complete with wheels and hoses then spent ages playing imaginatively in it. Great work children!

There seemed to be so many different outfits that day. The children looked brilliant and we enjoyed all the stories they brought to show us. Thank you to everyone who participated.

“Word of the Week” in the Rainbow Room will be “seasons” this week while the Raindrop Room is focussing on “Spring”. Let’s hope that we can see signs of Spring soon rather than Winter to help the children use these words.
World Book Day is always a lovely opportunity to celebrate our favourite books and to encourage the children to enjoy stories. This year, as part of a whole school celebration, the children were encouraged to dress as their favourite book character and to bring in their favourite books.
We were also very lucky to have Arthur’s Mummy in Nursery as a super visiting storyteller and would like to thank her so much for taking the time to join us. It was great to see so many children participating in World Book Day and we hope that you enjoy these photos of some of the children’s lovely outfits.
