Daily Kilometre

Children about to move to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth have been developing their fitness with their Primary 6 buddies over the last few weeks. Initially they began by walking round the school field once and, as they have progressed, many are now able to walk three times round the field which Primary 6 measured to be a kilometre. Everyone taking part has improved the distance they have been able to cover so well done to all of you.

Summer Sunshine

The summer sunshine has been encouraging the children to spend lots of time outdoors lately and, as you can see, some have been taking a break from their play to have an extra drink. We would like to remind everyone to please ensure that the children have sun cream on when they come to Nursery at this time of year. Let’s hope that we have lots more sunny days for the rest of the term.

Free Childcare

The Scottish Government has proposed to increase the provision of free childcare to 1140 hours per year for children who are 3 or 4 years old, as well as for vulnerable 2 year olds who are eligible for the 600 hours free entitlement through the Children & Young People’s Act 2014. With this in mind they are conducting a survey exploring how parents would wish to use this increase. The results of this survey will help guide policy on early years child care provision. In order for the survey to produce representative results it is important that we reach as many parents of 3 or 4 year old children from as wide a variety of back grounds as possible, this includes those who do not currently use free child-care provision.

The survey is available at the following link.

Well Done Dylan

Dylan’s family is delighted with his recent award:

“We’re so proud of Dylan this year, he’s come on leaps and bounds. Well done Dylan!”

You have done so well Dylan. It’s at this time of year that we often reflect on the progress that all our children have made in the past year as some prepare to move to Primary 1 and we are very proud of them all.

Bye Bye Butterflies

After weeks of watching the progress of our caterpillars which grew and formed their cocoons, we finally saw our beautiful butterflies emerging in their nets at the end of last week. After feeding them on sugary water and slices of oranges, it seemed that they were ready to fly off and on Friday we found a quiet spot close to Nursery to release them. Although they did not seem keen to leave us, Miss Kerr gave them a helping hand to settle on the flowers which gave everyone a chance to have a close look at our little butterflies before we waved them goodbye.

Skills For School

We hope that those who attended the Family Learning “Skills For School” workshop today found it helpful to prepare their children for Primary 1. Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, will be running another session tomorrow (9.6.15). Check for spaces on the noticeboard in the corridor if you have not yet signed up and would like to take part.
