Good Buddies

The children who will go to Primary 1 at Hecklegirth next year are now getting to know their buddies and good relationships are being built up. We feel sure that Jayden’s buddy will be happy to know that he must be doing a good job as Jayden’s Mum left a lovely comment:

“Jayden has been excited about his buddy and enjoys spending time with him which is lovely”

The buddies will be spending more time with the children in the weeks to come and we feel sure that they will all do a good job. Keep up the good work everyone.

Outdoor Learning Is Fun

Now that the children are well settled in after their Easter holiday, they have been spending lots of time in the Nursery garden, having fun in their learning. Many children have been enjoying searching for the flagstones with letters on to match to their alphabet notes and some have been working well in teams to plan and build dens. As you can see they are very well focussed on the task in hand and excited to learn.

Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter

As we began to learn about Spring and growing, the children discussed the seasons and what happens at different times of the year.

Bethany: it snows in Winter and snowflakes come down.
Kailey: in Summer there’s loads of flowers and you get to go outside lots and I always go to Hoddom for a sleepover.
Freya: lambs grow on my birthday.
Theo: you can bash your cars in Autumn ’cause it’s bad weather.
Dan: you get Easter eggs in Spring.
Riley: you see flowers on the trees in Spring.
Zachary: trees grow in Summer.
Ava: flowers start to grow in Spring. We get blossom on the trees.
Ben: the water gets very deep in Winter.

The children are certainly beginning to show an understanding of the seasons. Hopefully they should be able to talk a little at home now about what happens in Spring.

Happy Days

Judging by the comments from some of our new parents, their children enjoyed their first week in Nursery:

“Mollie loved her first week at Nursery, and was raring to go this morning too!”

“Kacey really enjoyed dancing and singing on Friday she couldn’t wait to tell her family what she had been doing.”

Ayda loved meeting all new friends and teachers on her first week of Hecklegirth and has been excited every day to tell me what she’s been doing :)”

Thank you all for leaving such lovely comments. We are glad that the children have all settled so well and hope that they continue to enjoy themselves.

Sprouting Beans

Thank you to Sophie’s Mum for letting us know about her beans:

“Much excitement in our house, Sophie noticed the beans have started to sprout!!”

That was quick Sophie. You must be looking after them very well. I wonder if anyone else’s have started to sprout since Thursday?

Settling In

We hope that our new children have enjoyed their first week in Nursery. They have certainly begun to settle into the routines and are experimenting in lots of different areas. Thank you to all the boys and girls who made them feel welcome and thank you so much to those kind parents who introduced themselves to our new parents to help them settle in to Nursery. As you can see below, some of our new children are looking well settled in Nursery life. Hopefully, they will continue to feature in our blog in the months to come.

More Growing Families

Since we returned to Nursery this week, we have noticed some exciting signs of the onions and carrots beginning to grow in our raised beds. These were planted at the end of last term by some children and their families as part of our “Growing Families” project led by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. Today another group of children and their families took part in the growing activities so hopefully we will have a bumper crop to make our soup later in the term. One or two children have also begun to bring in the peas that they planted before the holidays so well done for looking after them so well.
Thank you to everyone who has taken part and to Eileen for organising yet another super activity. We hope that you are all going to keep an eye on the raised beds for further signs of growth.

Back To Nursery

We hope that everyone has been enjoying their Easter holiday especially since the sun has come out to cheer us up. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday when we will be welcoming four new children to Nursery. No doubt they will be excited to start with us and we are sure that all our families will make them feel welcome. Miss Awde, our Modern Apprentice, will be working in the Sunshine Room this term which will delight the Sunshine children and we are all looking forward to a fun term ahead. Enjoy the rest of your holiday boys and girls. We will see you on Tuesday.

Growing Families

Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator, has left a message for our “growing families”:

“Thanks to everyone who came to the growing families session last Thursday – I hope all your seeds are sprouting at home. Don’t forget to bring your soup bowl pictures back to me after the easter holiday. Looking forward to seeing everyone who is coming to the session on 24th April. Happy Easter hope you all have a lovely holiday”

Hopefully the rain has helped the seeds you all planted in the Nursery garden. All we need now is a little sunshine.
