Today children in the Sunshine Room met Miss Leigh-Ann Murray who is on placement with us as a teaching student from the University of Glasgow, Dumfries Campus. Miss Murray will be based in the Sunshine Room for the next three weeks and is looking forward to working with the children. We hope that she has a happy time at Hecklegirth Nursery.

Confident Individuals
We hope that everyone has enjoyed their first week in Nursery. We have certainly had a great week getting to know all the new children and are delighted with the way in which they have settled. Two more parents have posted comments:
“Pleased to see the children appear to be settling well!!!!!!”
“Just to say thanks for a fantastic first week at nursery! My child has really enjoyed it and seems to be settling in well!”
Thank you to all our parents for working with us to ensure a smooth and happy start for the children. One of our aims is for the children to become ‘confident individuals’ and many are certainly showing quiet confidence already. We look forward to seeing you all again next week.
Carmen’s First Impressions
Carmen’s family has enjoyed seeing the first photos of her on the blog and has left photo comments:
“Deryn and Carmen look like there having fun x”
“Carmens first few days at nursery have been great. When I picked her up today I said how was your day at nursery today she replied it was very interesting mummy aw!!!”
Thank you for taking the time to post comments. We do appreciate it when our families participate in our blog as we want it to be something for us all to share. We love Carmen’s impression of her first few days in Nursery and hope that she continues to enjoy her experience.
First Days
It has been a lovely start to the new school year, as we get to know our new children and their families as well as welcoming back some familiar faces. We seem to have quite a few children who we remember coming to Nursery as babies and toddlers when their older brothers and sisters were pupils and it’s great to see how they have grown and developed.
The children have now attended a full session for the first time and they all seem to be settling in well. However, if your child takes a little while to feel comfortable, please allow him/her time to take things at their pace: we, as adults, cope with change in different ways and at different rates and children are exactly the same. If you have any concerns about your child, please speak to staff who can offer you advice based on their experiences.
Once we have blog permission slips returned from everyone, we will be able to put more photos and examples of the children’s work here. In the meantime we thought that you would enjoy these photos of the first days in Nursery.
We hope that you will find this a valuable insight into your child’s experience of Nursery and that you will share in the life of the blog by adding a comment.

First Day in Nursery and Primary 1
Sorry that we didn’t manage to get this message posted last night before school and Nursery started today but we feel sure that you will appreciate the kind comment from Ava’s Mum.
“Ava is very excited about starting Hecklegirth Nursery tomorrow! We will see you all in the morning. Good luck to Ollie and all the other boys and girls starting in Primary 1.”
We also hope that you all enjoyed your first day and look forward to seeing everyone in Nursery tomorrow.
Good Luck From Ollie
We have had two lovely comments from Ollie’s family today:
“The potatoes are in full flow now so if any of the boys and girls are passing please stop in to say hello. X”
If you were one of the children who helped to plant potatoes at Ollie’s allotment last term, his family would be happy for you to go and have a look at them so maybe you could take a walk with your family?
They also left a message for everyone starting school or Nursery tomorrow:
“It’s like Christmas Eve in our house. Everyone, especially ollie is excited about starting primary 1. We would all like to wish all the boys and girls at the nursery a fantastic first day. We agree that you will love it at hecklegirth nursery. Good luck to mrs Carruthers and her team and thank you so so much for all the experiences you gave ollie last year. Love Ollie,Wendy and Stuart. X”
We are looking forward to seeing all the children in Nursery tomorrow. Best wishes also to everyone starting Primary 1. We will be thinking about you all and hope that you have a great first day.
Nursery Uniforms
Nursery uniforms should be delivered to school today and can be collected tomorrow, Friday 16th August. If you ordered uniform last term, it will be available from the school office between 1.00 and 2.30. Please use the main door at the front of the school. If you are unable to collect the uniform tomorrow, you can pick it up when your child starts Nursery. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
Start of Term
As our summer holidays draw to a close, we hope that the children are beginning to get excited about the start of a new year in Hecklegirth Nursery, whether they are returning or it’s the beginning of their time with us. After a successful pilot scheme last year, we will continue to have two Nursery classes and children have been allocated a place in either the Rainbow Room or the Sunshine Room.
We would like to remind you that the children will attend for one hour only on the first two days, Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th of August. You will find details of your child’s time and room on the letter you received, allocating your child a place. If anyone is unsure of which group and room their child is in, staff will be in school on Friday 16th August and we will be happy to take your call to confirm this.
