Pyjamas were the order of the day at Hecklegirth today to raise money for “Children In Need” and the children and staff in Nursery joined in with the fundraising fun. We made a grand total of £155 with £34.80 donated by Nursery so well done everyone.

What Can We Do That Animals Can’t?
As we have been learning about our bodies this week, we have been talking about what our bodies can do and comparing what we can do with what animals can do. In the Sunshine Room we had a tricky question:
“What can we do that animals can’t do?”
This certainly made our brains work hard and the children showed good thinking skills with some of their answers.
Lexi: nod our heads.
William: animals can’t walk on roofs or wash their hands.
Sophie L.: they can’t draw.
Reagyn: they can’t hold a pen.
Carmen: they can’t hold hands and they can’t make music.
Deryn: they can’t make a banana sandwich.
Ava: we can brush our teeth but animals can’t.
Conan: they can’t drive.
Carmen: they can’t talk.
Roxy: animals can’t read.
Sophie L.: we can write our name but they can’t.
We think that you all showed good thinking skills coming up with some clever ideas. You were also very good at thinking of examples of animals who could do some of these things, for example, Reagyn told us that crickets make music and Conan said that monkeys can hold hands. I wonder if anyone can come up with any other clever ideas?
Hallowe’en Comments
Two more of our parents have been enjoying the Hallowe’en photos:
“What a scary bunch you have in nursery!”
“Lovely photo of the yellow group in their outfits, everyone made a great effort and Sophie had a fantastic time. we also liked the photo in the paper of her with her winning pumpkin :-))
Thanks!”
Thank you for taking the time to comment. There were some scary faces that day and it was great that everyone made such an effort.

Parental Consultations
We would like to remind you that individual parental consultations are available with your child’s key worker during weeks beginning 18.11.13 and 25.11.13. An appointment grid is displayed beside the notice board (Rainbow Room) and on the Nursery office door (Sunshine Room) to choose your appointment. If none of the available appointments is suitable for you, please speak to a member of staff to arrange an alternative time. We look forward to meeting with lots of parents over the next two weeks.
Celebration Statue
On Friday we were invited to join P1-3 for the unveiling of a statue in our school outdoor learning area. A former pupil, who is now a parent, is celebrating his 50th birthday in the same year as Hecklegirth School and has created an impressive statue to recognise the event. Unfortunately the weather was not kind on the day, as you can see from the photos, but it was lovely to be part of this landmark event. We are looking forward to a closer look at this interesting piece of art when we make visits to our outdoor classroom in the future.
Glittering Fireworks
This week we have been talking a lot about Bonfire Night and the children have been experimenting in the art area to make firework pictures. Some were painting on laminate to print and others preferred chalk but nearly everyone was keen to add some glitter to their work. The children have been commenting on each other’s work.
Jayden: I like the stars. The drawing is good.
Amy-Leigh: that’s nice, it’s just like fireworks. I like the stars and the colour.
Dan: I like the glitter.
Simon: the fireworks are sparkling in the sky.
Kailey: I like the stars and the glitter.
Zachary: it’s like they’re banging.
Ava V.: they’ve got sparklers.
Finlay: they look like rockets shooting in the sky.
Carmen’s Been Having Fun This Week
Carmen’s Mum’s been enjoying our latest photos.
“Carmen couldn’t wait to go to Nursery today. She loves dressing up so she was a very excited girl. She said she had lots of fun with her friends.”
“Ha ha I’m smiling because Carmen loves being outside and getting dirty. I must say she never told me that a digger came to Nursery. She never told me that she was outside helping. She looks like she’s had fun and looks to be enjoying helping out. I will have to ask her about it this afternoon.”
I’m not sure if Carmen was outdoors when the digger arrived because it was a surprise to us when it appeared but she worked very hard helping to move the bark and seemed to be in her element getting involved. Carmen and all the other brilliant helpers must have been very tired when they went home.
Why Has A Digger Come To Nursery?
A digger and trailer arrived unexpectedly at Nursery today which caused quite a bit of excitement for those busy in the garden. It was even more exciting when we realised that Robbie’s Dad had come with it and that he was bringing us lots of bark to top up our garden.
Suddenly our day changed and we all had to get our spades and wheelbarrows into action to transport the huge pile of bark into the digging area of the Nursery garden. What fantastic teamwork and perseverance the children showed, working so well together as they shovelled it into wheelbarrows, took them up the ramp into the garden and raked the bark flat. They were all taking turns and helping each other if the wheelbarrow was a bit tricky to manage – getting it up that ramp is not as easy as you would think. Very well done to the gardening team – we couldn’t have managed without you. We hope that everyone appreciates your hard work.
We Enjoyed Hallowe’en
Several parents have posted comments about our Hallowe’en party photos.
“Dylan looks so happy to be wearing his hat! All the kids costumes looked great, looks like they had a lot of fun”
“What great fun you all had! My child really enjoyed the party!”
“sophie.s. really enjoyed Halloween loved dressing up and really enjoyed the nursery party she also really enjoyed the disco.”
Thank you for the lovely comments. We did have lots of fun and it was great to see so many of the Nursery children at the school disco too. We think you must have all slept well that night after such an exciting day.
