Thank You Again

No sooner do I post a thank you for your comments, than another lovely one arrives from Ollie’s Mum and Dad:

Another great term at nursery for Ollie. He’s growing into a big boy in front of our eyes and we can’t believe he will soon be leaving to go to the big school. We cannot thank the nursery for all the hard work that has helped make Ollie into the lovely, funny, imaginative boy he has become. Have a happy Easter everyone and let’s hope the sun comes out for next term. Love Ollie’s mummy and daddy. X x

It is amazing how quickly the year is passing and the pre-school children will soon be starting to think about the move to Primary 1. We hope everyone enjoys their holiday too and that the sun is shining when we return for next term.

Thank You

Thank you to those parents who leave us comments. We hope that you enjoy getting a taste of Nursery life and that you will continue to contribute to our blog. It’s great to hear what you think. Neve’s family and Corey are the most recent contributors so thank you.

“Neve was very proud of her good work and so was her mummy and daddy. She has enjoyed learning all about the community she lives in. X”

“I really enjoyed doing my exercises it was fun jumping around.”

Congratulations

Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week brought lots of different competitions which many of you entered. It was great to see your wonderful ideas for a sports person made out of fruit and vegetables, the poster competition and the healthy packed lunch design. Thanks to all the family members who helped the children enjoy these activities at home. We also had certificates for being the best Junior Fire Officer and for giving the best effort at the Keep Fit activity.
Primary 6 were very impressed with the Nursery entries and several children won prizes and certificates. Well done to all who entered and congratulations to those who were winners. Thank you again to Primary 6 for being so organised with awarding your prizes and for making Nursery children feel special.

What Did You Think of Keep Fit?

Now that you can see the photos of our Keep Fit activity with the Primary 6 children, we thought we would share some of the comments the children gave on returning to Nursery. These quotes from the Sunshine Room certainly sound like positive feedback for Lauren, Aiden and Louis.

Scott: the star jumps were tricky.
Jordan: my legs nearly broke with running.
Harli: all of it was the best.
Mark: it was hard work but good.
Jaylin: I liked Lauren’s things when we had to shape out like a star.
Summer: I liked the running. It was hard but I could do it.
Finlay: the jumping jacks were the best.
Robbie: my sticker was the best.
Madison: I liked the running ’cause it was going round.
Hollie: running was best.
Evie: I liked the running and exercise bit.
Skye: I liked the jumping bit ’cause I like it ’cause it makes me tired.
Neve: I liked the running best ’cause it’s healthy.
Paige: the running made me tired. I liked the music too.
Hannah: I liked getting the sticker.
Jacquie: the running was good.

Keep Fit with Primary 6

Primary 6 made such a fantastic job of “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week” last week and one of the best events for Nursery was the keep fit activity organised by a small group of Primary 6 children.
To help plan their idea, they came to ask staff details about our numbers and what the children would be able to do and would enjoy. They listened well and made notes so that they were sure that their event would be successful. They even came to watch the children doing a music and movement activity to get an idea of what to expect. It was quite clear that their careful planning paid off as they produced a fun, challenging keep fit session which the Nursery children absolutely loved. Stretching, jumping, jogging … you name it, they did it and all to the background of music which added to the event. They had even thought to bring a story to read to the children at the end while they were all given stickers for their efforts.
We say, “Three cheers for Louis, Aiden and Lauren!” for being so kind to think of Nursery children and for planning such a brilliant activity.

What Clean Teeth You’ve Got Monkey!

As part of our Health Week, Claire from Childsmile visited us to talk to the children about the importance of cleaning our teeth and a good diet to keep our teeth healthy. As you can see, everyone enjoyed having a turn at cleaning monkey’s teeth although we think he would need more than the pea-sized blob of toothpaste that Claire told us we should use. What clean teeth you’ve got Monkey!

We’re Going on a Fruit Hunt

Last week was “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week” and it was great for Nursery to take part in lots of activities organised by Mrs. Johnston and Primary 6. Here you can see the Fruit Hunt organised by two Primary 6 pupils who hid a variety of fruit tokens in the Nursery garden for the children to find. They then had to work together to put the fruit in the correct hoops according to colour. Everyone had great fun especially when the wind blew them out of the hoops and we had to catch them again. Thank you so much to Primary 6 for taking time to organise a fun activity for us. We all thoroughly enjoyed it and loved taking part in “Heckie’s Happy Healthy Week”.

Fire Fighting Fun

The afternoon children got their visit from Ian, the fire fighter, this week to help them find out about his job and how to stay safe in a fire. As you can see from the photos, they enjoyed the visit as much as the morning children, especially when Ian had them escaping from the fire by crawling along the ground. We think that by the end of the visit the children were very clear on what they should do in the event of a fire. Thank you again, Ian. We appreciate you taking the time to teach the children in such a fun way.

Growing Families

Lots of children and their families have been taking part in the growing project organised by Eileen, our Family Learning Co-ordinator. They have enjoyed the story of “Oliver’s Vegetables”, made placemats, planted cress and made scarecrows with wooden spoons. Now some of the children have gone home with bags to grow carrots and onions which should be interesting and before you know it, we will have raised beds in the Nursery garden to grow our own vegetables. We look forward to the Sunshine Room and the Rainbow Room having a raised bed each. I wonder which room will grow the most vegetables?
Thanks Eileen for your great ideas and organisation as always. We look forward to the next stage of our growing project.
