As promised, here are some photos of the morning children’s Hallowe’en party. As you can see, the costumes were super and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Corners, musical statues, “The Witch is in her Den”, “Catch the Mallow”, dooking for apples and, of course, party food and dancing were all met with great enthusiasm. We think there must have been some very tired Nursery children that night but they all seemed to have a great time.

Hallowe’en Fun
Lots of fun and games were had at our Hallowe’en parties this week and the children all looked the part with fantastic costumes. It was great to see how well the children from the Rainbow Room and the Sunshine Room played so happily together. Dancing, party food and games seemed to be the perfect combination for a super party.
Here you can see a selection of photos from the afternoon party. Morning photos will follow soon.
Rain, Rain, Come Back Another Day
Water play was available on a large scale at the end of last term. As the rain seemed to have forgotten to stop, a huge puddle kept growing and growing in our garden. Unlike most adults, of course, the children simply found this very exciting and were keen to play in it.
As you can see from the photos, a lot of learning can happen with a few ducks, some boats, guttering and water wheels. We even managed to make rainbow bubbles with a little touch of washing up liquid. The children certainly showed themselves to be successful learners and effective contributors as they worked together to solve lots of problems and talk about their findings. We hope that the rain does come back another day as it provided such a fun learning experience.
Hallowe’en Fun
We look forward to seeing everyone at the start of our new term. Please remember that our Hallowe’en parties are on Wednesday (31.10.12) this week during the Nursery sessions when the Sunshine and Rainbow Rooms will join together for some fun and games. Fancy dress is optional.
Arcimboldo Artists
We used food to make portraits in the style of the artist Arcimboldo. As you can see, everyone had different ideas of what to use and how to use it but we think that the children produced some very interesting and original works of art.
You can click on photos to make them bigger. If you want to comment on the children’s work, please click on ‘0 comments’ above this paragraph to type your comment.
What do you think of the artist’s work?
As part of our learning about Autumn, we have looked at some of the work of the artist Arcimboldo. We looked at his portraits of “Summer” and “Autumn” to see how he used food to depict the seasons as faces then we used food to make our own portraits. Here are some our comments on Arcimboldo’s paintings. Examples of our own work will follow soon.
Katie: I like the Autumn one. I like the potato.
Liam: an artist makes pictures. I like the “Summer” Arcimboldo picture best ’cause he’s smiling on his picture.
Abbi: I like the leaves on the “Autumn” one.
Hayden: I like the “Autumn” one. His nose is funny.
Nate: the artist’s called Arcimboldo. The pumpkin is funny on his head.
Emily: I like the cherries on the picture.
Adam: I like the “Summer” one. I like all the stuff that’s hiding in his hair.
Olivia: I like the “Autumn” one. The “Summer” one looks colder.
Find a Sign of Autumn
Thank you for encouraging the children to learn about Autumn by bringing in a fantastic variety of things they have found on walks with their families. The frog that hopped out of the wheat certainly gave Miss Kerr something to think about as she added it to the display area and the children were very excited to get a close look, once it was safe in a bucket.
Last week we went on a nature walk to search for signs of Autumn within the school grounds. Unfortunately, no frogs were to be found there but, as you can see, we had a great time learning about the changes to nature in Autumn.
Outdoor Learning
Despite us turning the corner into Autumn, we have had some lovely days in the Nursery garden lately. Paint and water, sand and soil – we’ve mixed, measured, dug and had great fun learning outdoors. Here you can see us at work.
