Junior Librarian

We have recently purchased an online system for cataloguing books. This will allow us to improve the monitoring of our use of reading materials as a whole and the individual books our children are reading. This will enable us to set individual targets for reading for the children. However, it will be a major task to upload our material onto the system. Three member of staff have been trained in using this system but we would much appreciate some parent volunteers to assist with this mega task!! We are going to have a training session on Tuesday 17th June between 9:30am and 11:00 am. If you think you might be able to spare some time for sessions to help with this cataloguing between the 17th June and the end of term, please contact the office. Thank you. Please, please come and help! Mrs Howie

P5W visit the forest!

P5W have been taking part in a three day Forest Schools programme with lead forest ranger Elizabeth Tindal. Pupils have been learning how to build and cook on a campfire safely then prepared and cooked marshmallows, vegetable kebabs and some bread. Pupils have also been learning how to use ropes and tarpaulins to build shelters to shield them from the rain and midges!!! 🙂 P5W have had a fantastic two days and are looking forward to re-enacting battle scenes from the Scottish Wars of Independence next week!!!

P7 Mrs Irving’s Maths Group Enterprise

Mrs Irving’s maths group Enterprise It was amazing that in one week we went from completing a worksheet full of ideas to setting up our Enterprise, selling ice creams and ice lollies to a hall full of parents, children and staff! In one hour we were sold out of our ice-cream with sumptuous toppings, blackcurrant, Sprite and orange lollies. Well done the team!

We were complimented on our work ethic, manners, organisation and professionalism– no standing around chatting for this team!

In the end we made £150 and after deductions a profit of £121 which the team have decided to spend providing a party for all the P7s during a school afternoon as their trip was at the start of the year.

Hurrah for the maths’ group!!!!

Golfers

Mrs Howie recently took a group of golfers from P6 and P7 to Castle Douglas Golf Club for the Regiona Schools Competition. While the children did not receive any prizes, their behaviour was a reward in itself. All five displayed very good manners and conducted themselves well according to all golf etiquette and rules! Mrs Howie was proud of their efforts, well done!

French IDL day P7 at DHS

Fête française1 the Primary 7s were invited to a very enjoyable ‘French’ day at DHS. There was a variety of activities organised for them, each one encouraging the children to use their knowledge of French vocabulary and learn some new words. Songs were sung, puppets were made and imaginary animals created. Luckily there was also time to sample some delicious croissants and baguettes. The day ended with a celebration of the children’s successes to which parents were invited.Pupils were then presented with lovely certificates of achievement. We woud like to thank Mrs Kinghorn and all the modern languages team for this very special day.

P3A Hail Ceasar in their Roman Play!

Ancient Rome came to life at Dalbeattie Primary when the P3s performed their super play, all about life during Roman times.

The costumes were brilliant, especially the soldiers who looked very impressive. P3 shared their learning with us in an engaging and informative way. They explained how Romans dressed, ate and spent their leisure time-there was even a gladiator fight and a chariot race! Throughout the entertainment there was a catchy song which led to some impromtu  audience participation! Well done Mrs Anderson and P3!!!

P5D Enterprise

P5D Enterprise
Primary 5D learned how to saw wood safely and used their new skills to create their own wooden photo frames. Mrs Dyson was very proud at how safely they used junior hacksaws and bench hooks. They added in a photo to each frame, showing themselves dressed up as a character from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Primary 5D then designed a persuasive poster to advertise the sale of their frames to family members. After collecting money, they calculated costs and discovered they had made a profit. Primary 5D were very pleased to have raised the £125 needed (P5W were raising the other £125 needed) to pay for their bus to the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory.
