Hamden Tesco Challenge Football Experience

All 30 schools representing local authorities in Scotland

Good Save!

Is it the winning team?

Hamden was the destination for some lucky primary 3 children Dalbeattie primary. 11 girls and boys, accompanied by Head teacher mrs Jamieson and DHT, Alex Howie, made the journey to Hamden stadium for the 2013 Tesco Bank Football Challenge. Dalbeattie Primary school was selected to represent Dumfries and Galloway local authority, thanks to the super football coaching which has been taking place under the guidance of Bradley Howard. Following an early start, pupils set off for a fun packed day of activities including a tour of the dressing rooms and being photographed with the actual Scottish cup, just 3 days after it had been lifted by this year’s winning team, Celtic. The children also got to take part in a mini funfair of bouncy castles, meet premier league players and participate in workshops on football skills. However, the highlight of the day had to be actually geting to play football on the famous Hamden turf. The children were divided into 5 a side games and our children not only played against each other but against teams from other school too. The aspiring footballers of the future worked so hard and demonstrated some promising talent; it was great to see them showing good sportsmanship and representing the school so well. This is a memory that will last with them forever.

Gardening Club

The Primary 3 children are taking part in a gardening club again this year over a six week block. We are very grateful to Mrs Moffat, who has volunteered to come into school to help and to Mrs Mackenzie and Mr McMurtrie for helping to organise activities. The club began by planting potatoes in week 1. We look forward to seeing them grow and to harvesting them again for soup in the Autumn.

LEPRA Fundraising Workout

The pupils raised a tremendous figure of £1200.10 for the LEPRA charity. LEPRA is working towards the prevention of Leprosy in countries which still have the disease and to help people who already have the illness. The children of Dalbeattie Primary asked family and friends for sponsorship to take part in a work out, which took place in February. Our photograph, taken in April 2012,  shows Liz Osbourne of LEPRA presenting some of the pupils with their t-shirts (as a thank you for raising £21 or more) and a plaque to be displayed in school.

National Spring Clean Litter Pick

On Tuesday 24th April Primary 3A/T took part in a litter pick to tidy up Colliston Park. The children were accompained by Mr McMickan from Dalbeattie Community Initiative. The activity is all part of The Keep Scotland Beautiful Scheme. Although the children regularly litter pick in their own school grounds, this particular event is aimed at widening our tidying and care of the environment to places in the local community.

Titanic Day

We had a very successful dress up day on Friday 20th April. Mr Henderson from the museum came along to help judge the best dressed girls and boys. The theme was Edwardian or nautical. Prizes were donated kindly by the Dalbeattie Co-op store. Mr Henderson also presented the prize of a Titanic model kit to the pupil, who won the quiz sheet competition, all about William Murdoch and the Titanic, in conjunction with Dalbeattie Museum. In the holidays, the children were encourgaed to visit the museum in their own time with their parents to answer five questions about this important part of history for Dalbeattie. The winners of the dressing up competition were:
