On Friday 27th of June, P6 classes went to Robert Burns Film Theatre and then onto Dock Park for activities. We had raised money before Christmas by doing enterprising activities so our trip was entirely FREE!!!!
We enjoyed our treats and ice cream whilst watching out film , and then we played on the play equipment at Dock Park, followed by putting and crazy golf. The sun was shining and we had a great day!
This term P6 have been studying the Caribbean and the difference in culture with that of Scotland. Our collaborative challenge was to create a game that demonstrated our knowledge of the topic and our creativity. We had a great time creating the games and sharing our learning with each other.
What exciting matches we had today! Mr MacDougall kindly refereed the matches and the boys all played extremely well! They all showed how to be good sportmen and the adults were impressed with their skills. Winning team to be announced…..
Both P6 classes and P5D Â recently enjoyed doing some African Drumming with Dougie. He brought in a selection of drums from Africa and showed us how to play the drums in different ways.
We played together in unison at the end and had a great time!
On Friday the 31st of January we went to Glasgow to the Science Centre. We were going to investigate space as our topic this term is the Solar System.
We visited all the floors of the centre and enjoyed having a shot of all the interactive experiements and displays.
We went to a planitarium show just before lunch which was really cool! We saw all the different stars in the sky and learned how to find the north star. We also looked at the constellations and the planets in our Solar System .
We also got to visit the gift shop and buy some souvenirs! We had a great day!
On Thursday the 16th of January P6 and 7  had a visit from Tony who works with Childline. He gave a talk about different forms of abuse, including bullying, recognising the signs of abuse and knowing where to get help.
The children were all very engaged and know that all children have a right to feel happy and safe.
Each class then took part in a more detailed workshop and looked at Guy’s experiences. They learned how important it is to seek help and know different sources of support. They also created  “Buddy” kits.

A big thank you to all the staff and pupils who wore Christmas jumpers on Wednesday the 18th of December. We managed to raise almost £40 for Save the Children which is great! Everyone looked super!

P4w and K have been working with Mrs Popov on their singing and today they got to share their songs with other primary schools- Lochrutton and St. Peter’s.
We all had a great time and enjoyed hearing the other schools as well.

Both P4K and W have been swimming for two weeks at the pool in Castle Douglas. It has been great fun and group two are going next week!
P4W had a very successful “Singing and Shortbread” afternoon. We sang a variety of Scottish songs and sold our homemade shortbread- mnay thanks to Mrs Kalotka for all her help in this!
We had a great time sharing our learning.
