Primary 1/2 have had a busy start to Term 4. Our new topic is all about the Olympics, so we have been learning about Olympic medals and we have started to make a giant one for our Olympics display. To do this we needed to learn how to paper mache and how to work together successfully. We have also been down to Nursery for our Fun in 31 time so that we can start building relationships with next years P1s! In Maths P2 have been showing off their learning about patterns and we have been trying some new resources in our environment.

World Book Day
On World Book Day we all had a great time, some of us even came to school in our pyjamas! In the morning the eco group arranged a book swap so that all the children could get a book that was new to them to read. We then had different activities throughout the day, including lots of reading! In the afternoon we came together as a whole school and had a go at lots of different activities linked to books including telling stories using story telling spoons, building our favourite scene from a story, creating book marks and painting new front covers for books. Thank you to everyone who made it happen!
Safer Internet Day 2024
This week we took part in Safer Internet Day 2024. All the children, from Nursery right up to Primary 7, took part in activities based on the theme Inspiring Change? Making a difference, managing influence and navigating change online. The children learnt about different aspects of this in different classes, here are some pictures of the Primary 5/6 class and the Primary 1/2 class learning about how technology has changed over time.
We also talked about how we could stay safe online and who to talk to if we encounter problems.
Burns Poems
This week has been a busy one for all the children in school where we have found out lots about Robert Burns. On Tuesday 3 of our Primary 7 children (Abbie, Bobby and Caiden) represented the school at the Newton Stewart Inter Schools Burns Competition- we are delighted to announce that Caiden was the overall winner! Everyone tried really hard and as a result the judges had a really tricky job- they decided that all three schools would be joint winners and share the trophy this year.
Here are our fantastic representatives!
We also had our class competitions where all the children had the chance to perform a Scots poem. This helps develop their Listening and Talking skills and allows us to choose a top 3 to represent the school at the Galloway Music Festival in March. Here are our class winners:
Great work everyone!
Big School Birdwatch
The Eco Committee have been busy making bird feeders to try and attract more wildlife to our playground. They then asked that the children in school complete the Big School Birdwatch. We went out around the school grounds and had a good look for different birds on Friday. We then came inside and used tally marks to record our findings. Here are Primary 1/2’s results:
