P6/7 Updates

This week P6/7 have been researching the effects of sugar on their teeth. They placed eggs in a variety of drinks (Iced Tea, Irn Bru, Apple Juice, Ribena etc) and they are going to monitor the eggs over the next week to see what the drinks do to the egg shells.

The children also researched and measured the amount of sugar in common drinks. The drink with the most sugar was pineapple juice with a whopping 62g of sugar in 500ml. The lowest was water with 0g in 500ml. The children were surprised with some of the results and have set up a display to show the rest of the school to see.

P 5/6 Updates

P5/6 got creative this week and had a go at decorating their own pumpkins and creating their own spooky biscuits.

P1/2 Updates

This week the children in P1/2 have been busy making Halloween decorations and writing a procedure text to explain how they did it. One of our activities in the environment was a cutting activity to make a paper pumpkin. Even though it was a little fiddly, we had some great pumpkins by the end of the week.

Halloween!

Our first week back saw us celebrating Halloween! We saw some fantastic costumes and everyone had a great time at their parties. Thanks to our Parent Council for providing the apples for our apple dookin’ and a sweet treat for all the children to enjoy.

Primary 1 -2 updates

We’ve had a busy few weeks in Primary 1-2! We have been practising our sewing skills, investigating magnets and using our data handling skills to decide which labels we should put on our jam jars.

Jam Making – 28.03.23

As part of our Enterprise Topic, we have been researching how to make Jam. Throughout the term we have discussed ingredients, researched jam flavours, tasted jam and discussed a variety of jam products already on the market. Last week we created our labels and finalised our ingredients. This week it was finally time to make our jam!
We were all very excited and roped in Mrs Allison and Mrs Nichol to help. We will each be taking home a jar of our jam. We hope you enjoy it!

KNEX Engineering Challenge – Semi Final 23.03.2023

Charlie and Noah went to Minnigaff Primary School to represent our school for the KNEX Engineering Challenge. Their challenge involved creating a fairground ride. One of the conditions was that it needed to be 30cm tall. They did such a fantastic job and their behaviour was immaculate. Although they did not make the final, I’m sure you can agree that their invention ‘A Ferris Wheel’ was amazing. Very well done to them both.

Food Miles

This week P3/4 were learning to compere the sustainability of different food journeys. Here we used the new Chromebooks to research the origin of the different fruits and vegetables we like to buy. We drew the journey on a huge map and recorded their food miles. This way we could see how far some fruits and vegetables have travelled to get to Scotland.
