Harry Potter Party

To mark the end of term and completion of P5/6’s Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone novel study, we had a Harry Potter party in clsss today.  Pupils entered their names into a wizard/witch name generator on www.harrypotter.bloomsbury.com and wrote their magical name onto a Hogwarts ID card.  They also took part in an online quiz to find their house and Patronus.

P5/6 tested their broomstick skills by calling “Up”.  It was amazing to see the broomsticks shooting upwards after only a few attempts.

We played a game where pupils had to get themselves into pairs to match a Harry Potter inspired word with its definition.

P5/6 learned Harry Potter jokes and riddles, matched characters to their correct houses, decorated their own house crests, made magical school signs – i.e. potions with professor snape, charms with professor flitwick etc.

Pupils were given the opportunity to dress up and we listened to Harry Potter music.

P5/6 also enjoyed an end-of-term treat of a choice of either a knickerbocker glory, chocolate ice cream or lemon ice lolly which were all mentioned in Harry Potter & the Philosopher’s Stone.

Please look at our broomstick skills.

Personal and Social Development

This term, pupils in P5/6 have considered the qualities of a good friend, what good friends do, what good friends don’t do and conflicts that may arise in friendships.  Pupils took part in a walkabout/talkabout to discuss the aforementioned then shared their thoughts with their peers.

P5/6 have also learned about having tolerance, empathy, mutual trust, respect and loyalty towards others and have resilience themselves to help them to cope better in challenging situations.

I am very impressed with P5/6’s sensible attitude and growing maturity during these PSD lessons. Well done everyone!
