At the end of every Maths lesson, we share our learning with each other. We love explaining to others how to complete different types of calculations! Sometimes the children can explain things better than Mr. Kelly!

We were all excited to try out the new scooters which the school has bought. After we discussed being safe and how we could all enjoy ourselves, we put on our helmets and off we went! We didn’t have far to go as, luckily for P4/5, one of the scooter tracks is right outside our door. Special mention for Brandon and Riley G. who volunteered to sit out the first few laps as there weren’t enough scooters for everyone – well done you two, it’s always fantastic to see kindness and generosity in the classroom 🙂 .
Today we conducted an experiment. We made our own lemonade! We learned how making lemonade actually involves a chemical reaction. We realised that if you mix an acid (lemon juice) with a base (baking powder) you can create a fizzy liquid. We experimented by adding sugar and water. The results were delicious! And to top if off our classroom will be smelling like lemons till the end of term!
Pardon the pun (see below!)…we are all delighted to be back at school after the Easter holidays, ready for a new term of learning!
Today, we played football in gym. We practiced our dribbling, trying to keep the ball close to our feet and taking short touches. There was fantastic sportsmanship and fairplay on display today which was great to see!
In St. Ninian’s we love to celebrate success both inside and outside the school. Riley was awarded two wonderful trophies for his success in dog handling and ice hockey. He received a medal and a trophy for his dog-handling skills (he handled his granddad’s German Shepherd) and a trophy for the fastest shot on his ice hockey team. We are all proud of you Riley, well done!
We visited Menzieshill library today to take out, renew and return books. We always enjoy our visit to the library, there is a huge selection of books to choose from! Visiting the library also helps us with our Reading Challenge. For every book we read, the librarian gives us a stamp! We all have different targets that we want to reach.
Over the past few weeks we’ve been learning lots about theatre in Ancient Greece. In Ancient Greek theatre, the actors wore masks. We decided to make our own masks showing different emotions. Here were the results!
On Thursday we all took part in Fit Thursday activities. We all know the importance of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. We participated in a variety of activities like parkour, korfball, curling and boxercise. We all had lots of fun! Check out the photos and videos from below.

We’ve been doing lots of great work in Maths and Numeracy this term…division, multiplication, shape, money…on Friday, we began looking at Measure. We’ve been learning how to use a ruler properly to measure things. We worked in pairs to find objects in the classroom that measured 5, 10, 15, and 20cm.
We have been practicing our short and long division over the last few weeks. We know how to write it out and also how to use blocks to show our learning.
We started off with a division calculation. We were told the answer (above the line) and the number we were dividing by (the number on the “step”). We had to use our knowledge of our times tables to figure out how many blocks to put in the middle!
