Team GB’s Louise Renicks came to visit us and put us through our paces in a fitness challenge. Later she spoke to us about healthy eating and her judo successes. She showed us her Commonwealth Gold medal! It was a great day full of learning and fitness. In the afternoon we ran a whole mile around the school.

Toothpastes through history
We experimented with toothpastes that people would have used through the centuries. Our first was a mix of wood ash and water. It was messy and didn’t look like it would do a great job of cleaning! Next was a mix of chalk powder for roughness, water, mint and parsley for fresh breath and salt and pepper to kill germs. This looked better! Last was bicarbonate of soda for roughness and whitening, mint for fresh breath and vinegar to kill germs. The vinegar and bicarbonate fizzed up and made a foam! This one smelled great and looked most like what we use nowadays.
Numicon Fun
We had great fun adding tens and units to tens and units using the numicon.
O
Money work
Primary 2 are making Mrs O a rich woman by making their own £5, £10 and £20 notes! We using these to buy and sell and work out how to calculate change. We will then be more confident using these skills in our daily lives.
Healthy Eating – Healthy Bodies
As part of our learning across the curriculum we have been learning how to have a healthy balanced diet. We have created these rainbow plates to show the importance of eating a rainbow of fruit and vegetable every day.
Burns Day
We have been learning all about tartan and our Scottish culture. We even learned how to weave our own kilts. Later we had fun performing ‘Katie Bairdie’ to the rest of the school at our Burns assembly and dancing at the ceildh.
Our Time with Dundee Academy of Sport
We had a great visit from DAoS who talked to us all about taking in energy for our bodies and what happens if we get too much or not enough! We learned lots and had lots of fun in the process!
