Busy Business People
We are working hard creating beautiful frames and glitter tealight lamps for our stall at the Summer Fayre. We have taken out a loan of £25 and spent it all! Now we need to make our investment back and hopefully a bit extra! We have discussed loans, profit and loss and we were really excited to see £7 going into our money pot on Wednesday with our first pre-sale customers! Please support Primary 2 in their business venture!
Bouncebackability!
I’m really proud that Fallon and Holly displayed great resilience skills during football. Both were involved in difficult tackles and persisted with the game even though they were upset. Fallon went on to score two goals. Both girls were very proud of themselves. Well done!
Fit Thursday
We enjoyed dance, Gaelic football, basketball and SFA Football! We were on the go all day and fantastic day practising our games skills and trying new activities.
Sharing a shell.
We have been learning about the symbiotic relationship that exists between some sea creatures and how this helps protect and nurture each of them. We read Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson and we’ve talked about the different creatures that live in a shell and how one animal’s behaviour can benefit another and protect the balance of sea life. We have started making our own paper mache shells which we will decorate when they are dry and hard.
Making clay pots at literacy time
Mrs Oglesby’s literacy group have been reading Jay’s Clay Pot this week so we followed the instructions in the text and step by step created our own. We even have our very own Jay in real life!
Moving on to metre measures!
We took advantage of the lovely weather to get outside for more measuring. We have done lots of work with non standard measures and we have chatted about the issues with using them. We came to the conclusion that having a way of measuring that was always the same and that people all over the world would understand would be better, especially when it comes to building important things like houses, roads and bridges. We then went out and about using metre sticks, estimating and measuring. There was some super maths on the go with some people using repeated addition to work out the length of a square in the playground or of the wooden raised beds. We have some excellent engineers in the making!
Sensational Scooting
We were lucky enough to be the first class to use our super new scooters. Despite the awful weather we scooted around the new track and really enjoyed getting fresh air and exercise. Some of us were a bit nervous but before long everyone was whizzing around and also remembering the important safety rules we discussed at assembly.
Easter Eggstravaganza!
Before the holidays we really enjoyed sharing our Easter bonnets and baskets with the rest of the school! Well done P2!
Estimating and Measuring Length
This week we have been focusing on what estimating means and using language such as ‘almost’ ‘nearly’ and our Power Word, ‘ approximately’. We have been practising all around the school and playground, thinking and making sensible guesses about length then checking with heel to toe steps. We are discovering that there are some issues with this method ; this has led to some really interesting discussion and super thinking.
