We have found lots of interesting bugs this week. This large spider was in our classroom so we carefully put it in our magnifier jar to take a closer look. The spider had an interesting pattern on its back! We also found a minibeast that none of us could identify. Miss Thompson took it with her to the staffroom to see if any of the other teachers knew what it was, but they didn’t either. After some research we identified it as an adult Hawthorne Shield bug which is quite rare for our country. Unfortunately it had lost a leg because we could only count 5! We were very pleased with our find and after all having a closer look, we released it outside in a safe place.

Super Scientists

Today we learned more about how a seed grows into a plant and what a plant needs to grow effectively. The 2 things are light from the sun and water. We have set up an experiment to test out our ideas. We have a seed with both light and water, another with just light, another with just water and another with none. We guessed what we thought might happen and can’t wait to see if we are right! We also checked on our sunflowers from last week….they have grown so much already. We passed them around to take a closer look at the roots and shoots developing.  Finally we had fun planting our own mini- grass garden and teeny pots of grass which we are turning into crazy grass heads!
