Merry Christmas Everyone!

Welcome back to P1’s last blog of 2012! Can you believe that? Where has this year gone?!

We have been doing lots of ‘Christmassy’ things this week.

We wrote our letters to Santa. We had to ask very politely for something we would really like to find in our stocking on Christmas morning. We also had to write in our best hand writing. Santa really likes neat hand writing!

We had our Christmas party on Monday. We did some dancing, played musical bumps, the Christmas 4 corners game and instead of pass the parcel we played pass the santa hat!

We went into the dinner hall for our party food and we used the place mats we had made earlier.

After our food we did the hokey cokey and sang some songs. Whilst we were singing we heard a bell. You’re not going to believe it but it was Santa!! He had brought gifts for every boy and girl in P1! It was very exciting!

We also made our Christmas cards to take home to our family and friends. The classes did different versions of Christmas tree cards.

This week we also went to visit Santa’s Grotto at our local community centre. It was beautifully decorated and we all sang songs and Mr Bluman read us a Christmas story. We went to visit Santa and he gave us all a selection box. Wasn’t that very kind?

P5/6 and P6 had a Victorian Christmas exhibition in the hall and we were very kindly invited. We learned lots of things that the Victorians did to celebrate Christmas. We made some paper chains, Christmas crackers, Christmas stockings and we decorated a victorian house. They also told us that in victorian times children got an orange and a coin in their stocking, if they were lucky. We’re hoping Santa brings us a little more than that!

Lastly this week we had our Christmas sing a long. We have been practising all our songs for weeks and we finally got to perform. We had our first performance to the whole school in the morning then again to our parents/carers in the afternoon. Every one agreed we did very well and all those weeks of learning all the words was worth it!

P1a, P1b, P1c, Miss Donaldson, Miss Bonnar, Mr Bluman and Mrs Lynch would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we hope that you continue to follow our progress in the New Year.

See you in 2013!!

He’s making a list, checking it twice, gonna find out who’s naughty or nice…….

Hello and welcome back to Longhaugh Primary 1’s blog!

Only 10 more sleeps until Chrismas Day!

We continued to look at the medial vowel this week. This week it was the turn of the vowels ‘e’, ‘i’, and ‘o’.

In number we were doing some symmetry work, Christmas themed, of course! Have a look at some of our symmetrical trees below.

Our P1 Christmas party is on Monday the 17th of December. No party is complete without a party hat. We made ours this week cutting out our own shape from the paper and decorating it with lots of jewels, feathers, gold paper etc. We think we’ll be very festive.

We also made place mats for our party. We coloured them in using our own choice of colours and our own design.

On Friday we had a very exciting Glow meet with Santa! Yes! Can you believe it? Santa! He visited Stonehouse Primary School in South Lanarkshire and lots of primary schools all over the country watched and listened to his visit. The boys and girls asked him some very interesting questions. We wondered if he already knew if we were on the naughty or nice list……

We also had a craft afternoon. Our parent/carers and adults that live with us came into school and we worked together with them on our craft activities. It was a great success!

Baubles….Bangles…and Beads

We’ve been busy this week and it will only get busier in the run up to Christmas.

We have been working on CVC words this week looking at the middle vowel ‘a’ and ‘e‘. We have been given words where the vowel is missing and have to think of the correct vowel to make the word. We’ve been doing very well with this job.

We also wrote a sentence about our silly hat sponsored walk. We drew a picture and wrote a sentence about our favourite part.

In number we have been playing number games using our dice. We have also been playing Christmas adding games using crackers and Christmas trees.

Our school Christmas Fayre is on Saturday the 8th December and we’ve been making things to sell and also painting a display. In our Assembly Hall all the classes painted a display of their favourite Winter/Christmas story. We chose a Percy the Park Keeper story but painted him wearing a festive Santa hat!

We also made beaded bracelets. This was quite a tricky job as we had to carefully thread the beads onto the elastic making sure we put the beads on in a pattern and also checking that they didn’t fall off the other end before we tied a knot in the elastic!

We are also going to be selling picture frames with our picture in them. We painted our frames using bright colours and decorated them with sequins.

Merry Christmas!

A warm welcome to Longhaugh Primary 1’s very last blog of 2011!

We are only at school for 3 days this week then we are off for our Christmas holidays.

We have been revising all the sounds we have learned so far. We sang the songs and did the actions and wrote them on our whiteboards. We also revised all our numbers to 10. We sang all our number rhymes and practised writing them on our whiteboards. Hopefully we will remember them all over the holidays.

We made party hats to wear at our Christmas party. We decorated them with sequins, stars and pieces of tinsel to make them look extra sparkly. I’m sure you agree they look quite splendid!

We had our Christmas party on Monday and we all put on our party clothes and had a wonderful afternoon! We played pass the santa hat, musical bumps, the corners game and the Hokey Cokey, danced The Bluebell polka and the Shoemaker and had a drink and something to eat. We also had a very special visitor who gave us all a present. We were very excited, behaved beautifully and had a super afternoon!

Miss Simpson, Miss Bonnar, Mrs Rooney, Mrs Lynch and all the boys and girls of Longhaugh P1 wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We look forward to reading all your comments in 2012!!

“We Three Kings”

Welcome back to our last full week at school before the Christmas holidays.

This time of year is very busy and we have been fighting colds and sickness bugs to get all our activities done!

We learned 2 sounds this week, they were ‘ng’ and ‘oo’.

The action for ‘ng’ is to pretend you are a weight lifter and push your  hands above your head as if your were lifting a dumb bell and say, ‘ng ng ng ng’. The action for ‘oo’ is to move the top half of you body backwards and forwards mimicing a cuckoo coming in and out of a cuckoo clock and say ‘oo oo oo oo’.

We continued working with our ladybird maths box again this week, this time working on the stories of 8. We used playdough spots on the ladybirds then wrote our number stories on our white boards.

We received another letter this week from Buddy Boo, Eric and Willow from the Land of Me. They thanked us for taking them on so many wonderful adventures and that they will see us after the holidays. They are going back to Bramble Woods and are getting ready for winter there. It is very cold and they set us a challenge. We had to design winter clothes for Buddy Boo, Eric and Willow to wear and Granny Olive was to judge the best designs!

Here are our designs and here are the winners from the three classes with Granny Olive.

We still had some Christmas craft to finish and we made our Christmas cards and our calenders. As you can see we made a very good job of both!

Finally, this week we performed our nativity, “We Three Kings” to our families. We had 2 fully booked performances and everyone thought we did a splendid job. Everyone remembered their lines and the singing was fantastic! Our parents and families joined us after the performance for a cup of tea/coffee and mince pie in the dinner hall.

Well done P1a, P1b and P1c of Longhaugh Primary School, you are all stars!

Our Christmas Shop is Open!

Welcome back to our blog! We have been incredibly busy this week and have managed to fit a lot of exciting learning into the last 5 school days.

Even though it is very close to Christmas we still managed to learn more sounds. This week we learned ‘ie’ and ‘ee, or’.

The action for ‘ie’ is to put your hand to your forehead and pretend to salute and say “ie,ie,ie,ie“. The action for ‘ee, or’ is to put your hands on top of your head and make donkey’s ears. Make the ears stand up and say ‘ee’ then make the ears flop and say ‘or’.

We continued with our ladybird maths box this week and we worked on the stories of 7. We put the dots on the ladybird and then wrote the sum on our white boards.

We have been extremely busy this week with our Christmas activities. Our Christmas shop opened and all the classes came down on a rota basis and bought lovely gifts for their family and friends. We even provided a wrapping service! We have made a lot of money for the school through our Christmas shop and we’d like to thank all the parents/carers and children who donated and bought all the wonderful gifts.

We also made snowmen paper chains to decorate our classes.

We have been rehearsing for our nativity, We Three Kings, every day this week and we had our dress rehearsal on Friday which we performed to the whole school. We did very well and everybody thought it was marvellous. We have 2 productions next week for our families.

We were also very lucky and went to visit Santa in his grotto. We listened to a Christmas story and sang lots of Christmas songs. we all got to have a chat with Santa and he gave us a gift. We had a marvellous afternoon!

St Andrew’s Day

Hello and welcome back to our blog. Only another 3 more blogs until Christmas! my goodness where has the time gone? This is a very busy time of year at school and we have been very busy indeed!

We have learned another 2 sounds this week. They are ‘ai’ and ‘oa’.

The action for ‘ai’ is to to put your hand behind your ear as if you were hard of hearing and say, ‘ai ai ai ai’. The action for ‘oa’ is to but your hand to your mouth in surprise and say, ‘oa oa oa oa’.

We continued to work with the ladybird maths box this week. We put spots on the ladybirds to make our sums and wrote them on our white boards. It’s tricky but we’re getting the hang of it!

We’ve also been using our number buses to help us too. We draw the passengers on the top of the bus and some more passengers on the bottom deck of the bus and then we write our adding sum counting both decks altogether.

In the Land of Me we know that Granny Olive loves to tell stories in her story cave. We can’t go into the woods and build our own cave, so we thought it would be a good idea to go into the hall and build our own story caves for Granny Olive using our construction material. I think you’ll agree we made a very good job!

It’s getting nearer to Christmas and there will be a great many things going on over the next few weeks. Our Christmas shop opens on Monday so we had lots of things to do for that.

We priced all the gifts.

We put them all on the shelves in the shop.

We made decorations to hang in our shop so it looked Christmasy and inviting! We made snowflakes, paper chains and we printed wrapping paper.

Our Christmas Nativity is in 2 weeks so we have been rehearsing for that and also practising the dances for our Christmas party!!! My goodness we have been busy.

St Andrew’s day was on Wednesday the 30th November. We talked about St Andrew and that he is the patron saint of Scotland. We weaved some of our own tartan from paper and we listened to bagpipe music and scottish songs. To end our celebrations we had a drink of juice and some shortbread.

It has also all changed in Mrs Lynch’s room. We now have a festive Christmas room. We set the table for 4 people, remembering where the cutlery goes and we decorate the tree with baubles but we have to make sure we put them on in a pattern! Our number line is now Christmas crackers and we put them in the right order. We wear santa hats to put us in the mood for all our Christmas writing jobs.

Another very busy week in P1 at Longhaugh Primary School!

Merry Christmas Everyone!

Welcome to P1’s last blog of 2010. We only have 2 and a half days in school this week then we’re off for our Christmas holidays! Even though we’re only in for half a week we have still been very busy.

We made our party hats and place mates ready for our party on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning Mr Brough, the minister from Fintry Parish Church, came into school for our Christmas service. The school choir sang and we also sang carols, it was wonderful and it got us all into the true Christmas spirit.

In the afternoon  it was our Christmas party. We had great fun dancing all the dances we had practiced and playing party games. We also got to eat our party food in the dinner hall which had been decorated with the mats etc we had made and of course Santa visited us!

We have had a very busy year in P1 at Longhaugh Primary School and we hope you have enjoyed reading about all the activities we have done. We hope you will continue to enjoy following our progress in 2011!

All the boys and girls in P1, Miss Simpson, Mrs Adams and Mrs Lynch would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year!

Merry Christmas from P1!

Christmas Rush!

This is the last full week before we come off for the Christmas holidays and we’ve managed to pack lots in.

On Monday we had our dress rehearsal for The Grumpy Sheep in front of the whole school and on Tuesday we did 2 performances for our families. It was a huge success. Mr Munro said it was the best singing he had ever heard! Well done to all the boys and girls in P1, P2 and P3.

We’re still busy making lots of Christmas craft. We made calenders and also beautiful table decorations. We painted fir cones green and put glitter and sparkles on them to look like real Christmas trees.

We’ve continued to work hard with our numbers. We used Christmas crackers to count our numbers 0-10 and jumble them up then put them back in the correct order.

We have also been problem solving. Winston,  the Longhaugh bear, has been feeling very chilly in this cold weather and we had to think what he would need to keep warm. We have been designing hats, gloves and scarfs remembering to use a pattern and making sure that our hats, gloves and scarfs all matched.

We have been revising all the sounds we have learned (23 in total), and sorting them all out on our sounds table. We used our letter vests to make words.

Our Christmas party is next week and we have been practising our dances. Our dances are The Bluebell Polka, The Shoemaker and the Hokey Cokey. Christmas is almost here!

Last of all we joined the P2’s in the computer room for a Glow meet and saw Santa visit St Joseph’s Primary School in Milngavie! We sang Jingle Bells and listened to him telling us all the things he does at|Christmas. He said hello to us and all the schools that had joined the Glow meet  in Dundee! We were very excited!

Dates for your diary

School finishes at 12 o’clock Wednesday 23rd December.

Christmas is coming!

We have had an extremely busy week catching up on the things we missed due to the school being closed. We are back working hard but our playground is still very, very snowy!

We learned one more sound this week, the ‘x’ sound. We all had great fun pretending to take an ‘x-ray picture’, the action for this sound.

Santa’s workshop has come to P1 and Santa left us a letter asking us to design lots of toys to help him out at Christmas. He also told us we were all on the ‘nice’ list. Phew!!

In room 6 we’ve been decorating Santa’s tree but we must remember to put the decorations on using a pattern. We’ve also been practicing setting Santa’s Christmas table. It’s tricky to remember where everything goes!

We’ve also been very busy making lots of craft to sell at our Christmas fayre. P1A have been making tree decorations and P1B have been making Christmas stockings.

We made angel cards to take home.

As the playground and streets are still very snowy and icy, it makes it too difficult for us to walk and visit the community. So we had a very, very special visitor this week. Santa came to Longhaugh Primary School! It was lovely to see him and we all promised we would try and be especially well behaved and he gave us a gift.

Even though we have been so busy making all our Christmas craft and rehearsing for our show, ‘The Grumpy Sheep’, every day, we have also been using our Ladybird maths box. This week we have been working hard making 5 and making 6.
