Week Beginning 15th September

It is hard to believe it has already been four weeks since we returned from our summer break. As always there has been lots crammed into the opening weeks.

We had a very successful Open Doors event of Friday with a very good turnout from parents and carers. It is always great for our young people to share their learning with you.

Primary 1 also had their photograph in the paper. Below is a copy for this who did not see it.

Week Beginning September 8th

As always it has been a very busy week at Longhaugh Primary. The highlight of our week would have to be the residential  trip to Dalgusie many of our primary 7 pupils enjoyed. It was an eventful week and all the pupils and staff had a great time.

Hopefully these photographs will capture some of the fun everyone had

What’s on this week?

UN Convention on The Rights of The Child

We continue to discuss the rights of the child at our assemblies. This is very important to us at the school and believe our young people should be aware of their rights and the responsibilities that go with them.

We will be sharing this leaflet with all classes over the next few weeks and hope you will discuss it with your child.

Social Target

Every 2 weeks we have a focus on a social target. This is linked to our HWB scheme Bounceback and to the general learning and teaching in the school.

This is the social target for this week

Microsoft for Pupils

Pupils in Dundee schools are now eligible to download Microsoft Office ProPlus (instructions attached) for use on their home or personal computer equipment. This is a great benefit for pupils. Access to the software is free for them. Since, however, the computer equipment will most likely belong to parents or carers, schools are advised to inform them, about this opportunity, and pass on the instructions for downloading and installing to them, and not just to pupils.

The software is provided as-is and no support for the installation or use of the software is provided by Dundee City Council. Any incident compromising a computer during installation will not be the responsibility of Dundee City Council.

This version of Microsoft Office is compatible with the version deployed in all Dundee Schools.

Welcome Back

It is great to be back after a seven week holiday. I hope you all had a great summer and are happy to be back at school. All our young people look very smart and have come back to school ready and prepared to learn. It never fails to amaze me just what an absolute credit our youngsters are to our school community.

The summer holiday was a busy one for the school. A lot of building work was going on and most of this is now finished but some work still needs to be completed. One of the on going consequences of the work not being completed is that we will not be able to provide a tuck shop for the next few weeks.

The Longhaugh Support Group is now situated within what was previously our infant department. I know many of you are not entirely sure what service the LSG provides. A future blog will explain in more detail exactly what it is but in short it is a city wide provision for supporting pupils from across Dundee.

As the LSG is now in the main building primary 1 , primary 1/2 an primary 2 are now in the annex.

Weekly Diary

Already, this early in to the session, things beginning to be very busy.

This Thursday the primary 1’s will have their picture taken for the Evening Telegraph. More details will be sent to parents and carers early next week.

Newsletter

Our first newsletter was issued this week and you should have found it in school bags. It is our intention to have a minimum of one newsletter per term. There is lots of important information contained in newsletters.

Week beginning 6th May

Week Beginning 6th May

Last week was another really busy week. I know Mr.Munro was a little frustrated as he had a number of appointments out of school which meant he was about as much as he would have liked. However this week seems a little more settled and hopefully there will be more tweets and Mr. Munro able to see more of you all.

By the end of this week report cards will be issued. You will also be offered a time for parent/teacher interview on Monday 19th May.

Highlight of last week was certainly the primary 7  World War II exhibition. Well done to all the pupils and staff for such a successful event.

Netball Team

Well done to our netball team. Each week they represent our school with pride and never let us down.

Football Team

Our school team also played a couple of times this week. On Thursday they had a great match and a fine result against Ballumbie Primary school.

Primary 7 Competition Winners

Recently our primary 7 pupils entered a city wide art competition. This was to design a venue for the Dundee Waterfront. Two of our pupils were winners. Sian and Liam accompanied by family and Mrs. Corstorphine to a presentation in town through the week. We are very proud of them.

This week is another packed week with alot going on in the classrooms and around the school in general. There are several times throughout the week when it will not be possible to see a memebr of the management team. If you require a member of the SMT to speak to you please leave a contact number and Mr. Munro or Mrs. Jenkins will get back to you as soon as possible.

On Friday afternoon there will be visitors from Dundee House in school to speak with the management team about how the school is performing. This meeting usually takes 2-3 hours and allows us to show off the school and highlight what we do well and what we need to develop. In coming blogs feedback from the visit will be shared.

However the main event of this week is Mr.Bluman will be finishing his time with Longhaugh Primary on Friday. He has been a valuable member of our school community and will be sadly missed.
