P2F

This week we have been learning all about the senses. We are looking at the eye in more detail and learning how it helps us to see. In Maths, we are learning about Data Handling  and  all about bar charts. Today, we had to sort out fruit and veg. We had to group them and make tally marks in order to keep count. It really was quite tricky. Next week, we will be doing pictograms. In Language, we have been describing different settings using adjectives and phrases. Have a fabulous weekend!

Working Hard in P2F

Hello, P2F here.  We are checking in,  just to inform you of our busy learning. We have been adding and subtracting, following directions, improving our handwriting- letter f and learning all about germs and how to wash our hands properly. World Book Day was fantastic! Jamie liked reading a book with the P7 Buddies. Sam enjoyed showing his teddy around the class. Libby gave her pillow lots of hugs. Georgie liked being able to bring a book to school and Isla liked solving the maths puzzle and decoding the message. It read -What is your favourite book? Signing off now.

This week we have been working on the heart and the body. We have also been learning about facts and opinions.  One fact about the heart is that it is a muscle that pumps blood all around  the body. We have also been learning that our bodies belong to us and that our private parts are private. We learned about Pancake Day and Lent and retold  the  story about The Runaway Pancake.

February and P2F

This week we have been learning all about the Digestive System and what happens to our food. In R. M.E, we  learned more about Buddhism and the symbols associated with this religion. We had fun learning the o-e sound with Geraldine the Giraffe and made notes when listening to Newsround. In Maths,  we have been using the 100 square to add and subtract 10. We have also been using the computer to pay for toys in the Toy Shop. This is on Topmarks.

Learning in P2F

We can’t believe that today is the last day of January. Time flies! This week we have been learning all about money and have had fun playing in the shop. It is set up in the shared area. We have also been learning about Buddhism and have enjoyed investigating all the ‘goodies’ which were in the Buddhism box. These include non-fiction texts, beads, statues, bells etc. Note-taking was fun and we are enjoying learning some Makaton signs, although, they can be quite tricky. Have a good weekend!

P2F

This week in Maths, we have been learning all about Subtraction and we have been counting forward / back within 100. In phonics we learned the a-e sound. We have also learned all about the skeleton and the body parts. Scotland has been big on the agenda and we have enjoyed learning about Rabbie Burns. We designed our own tartan and made a piper playing his bagpipes. The word search was tricky but we persevered.  We are looking forward to the weekend. Wonder who will be getting haggis, neeps and tatties for tea!

Class Newsletter: Term 3

 Miss Fuller (P2F)

 Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope you find the following information useful.  If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact either of us.

 Learning focus this term:

Through our topic The Body we will be learning about:

  • The skeleton
  • The major organs
  • Spreading of germs and common diseases

If you have any experience in this area, please let us know. We would love to have some ‘experts’ come in to share in our learning journey.

Core Literacy:

We are continuing with our Read, Write Inc literacy programme for phonics. ‘Fred’ will help us to sound and blend words to help us read and write.

  • Children will bring home a reading book, although this may not be issued on the same day each week. They may also have a tricky words list to practice. Please read these with your child every night wherever possible, and ensure that the reading book is kept in your child’s red folder and brought to school every day. If you would like to fill in your child’s new diary, please do so. Pictures of books in the diary can be coloured in each time your child reads from their reading book. We hope that this will encourage more regular practice at home. We will also focus on non-fiction texts this term, paying particular attention to contents and index pages to find information.
  • Our writing lessons will focus on report writing and creative writing. We are continuing to develop the use of connectives within our sentences, such as ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘because’ to extend our writing. We will continue to recognise and use verbs, nouns and adjectives in our reading and writing. We will also be developing our handwriting skills.
  • We are working on our listening and talking skills through Show and Tell, Book Blessings, and sharing our news at circle time. We will also be learning to distinguish between facts and opinions. We have been learning ‘The Sair Finger’, which we will share at our Scots Assembly. Some children in our class have really enjoyed creating their own books and sharing these to the class. This helps the children identify themselves as writers and develops presentation skills. I hope that this will continue throughout the session.

Core Numeracy:

This term will be focusing on

  • Subtraction
  • Money
  • Data Handling
  • Time

Core Health and Wellbeing:

As part of our learning about the body, we will also be learning about respecting our bodies and the correct names for different body parts. More information on this will be sent out to parents. We will continue to develop our friendship skills, such as respect, sharing and listening.

This term, we are learning to be like Heard Hazel. Pupils will be able to receive their Heard Hazel certificate if they:

  1. Listen carefully
  2. Wait their turn and do not interrupt others
  3. Share their ideas with their classmates
  4. Allow others to have their say

We will have further certificates for other Redwell’s Rights and Respecting School characters later in the session.

We will learn about Buddhism in RME.

Yellow Wing Cuddle on the Couch:

Please help us to promote reading by joining us for Cuddle on the Couch. Come along to the Yellow Wing and spend some time reading with your child. If you require a schedule of Cuddle on the Couch dates, please contact the school office.

Sharing of Learning Afternoon:

This year P2 will be sharing our learning on Friday 27th March. This will focus on The Body. More details to follow.

Lost Property:

We are aware that children sometimes misplace jumpers and other items of clothing. Please ensure that your child’s name is on every piece of clothing that comes into school. Children are given opportunities to find their property in class and throughout the school. If your child comes out of school without some of their belongings, they will be given the opportunity to retrieve their property the next day.

I look forward to working in partnership with you this session.

Kind regards,

Miss Fuller

Christmas is all go. What next for P2F

Well, the nativity plays were a hit! The children were amazing and looked fabulous in all their costumes! But there is no time to rest. The work goes on. Next week the children have the party, they need to learn the songs for the church and they need to finish writing their alien stories.

P.S. A big thank you to all the parent helpers who accompanied the Yellow Wing to post the Santa letters!

Stars of the Future-P2F and Yellow Wing

This week we have been rehearsing for our nativity show. The dress rehearsal, in full costumes, went well so we are looking forward to next week and the performances. Miss Fuller also kept us busy in class. We were learning  the oy and oi sound in Phonics,  Making Ten Method in Maths and we were planning an imaginative story with a beginning, middle and end.
