In Writing, we wrote narrative poems about Autumn. We tried to use similes, metaphors or onomatopoeia within our poems. We wrote at least two verses with four lines in each verse. We then redrafted our Autumn poems and illustrated them. These poems will be displayed with our Autumn trees we drew in Art. We used crayon to draw Autumn trees and we used Autumn colours for leaves on the trees and ground. We tried to create perspective by drawing a larger tree at the front with a smaller tree in the distance. We used a blue and green paint wash to paint the sky and grass.
In Numeracy, we were continuing to develop mental maths strategies for multiplying. We used our knowledge of multiplying by 10 and 100 to complete calculations. We also rotated round stations to complete multiplication calculations using a variety of contexts.
In Science, we used ‘Decision Trees’ to identify four animals in each vertebrate group – fish, mammals, amphibians, reptiles and birds. We had to look at their features and identify the name of the animal.
In Writing, we were writing a Narrative poem about Harvest. We tried to write verses with 4 lines for each verse. We thought about ideas relating to Harvest.
In Maths, we continued to progress our understanding of subtraction by calculating written sums. We started multiplication by 10 and 100. We learned the rule for multiplying by 10 and 100 and we calculated multiplication sums using higher numbers.
In Science, we were learning about vertebrates. We continued to learn about the features of fish, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds. We sorted pictures of animals into each group.
In Science, we have been learning what invertebrates and vertebrates are. We created habitat backgrounds using chalk and oil pastels and we drew an invertebrate of our choice. We then gathered information about our invertebrate using a range of non-fiction books and we created an information sheet. Here are pictures of our display:
In Maths, we have been learning how to subtract and we have been writing subtraction sums. We have been using strategies to help us calculate the answer.
