Health Week 2017 – WHACKY RACES

As part of Health Week we designed and created a set of Whacky Races. It was important to use the things we have been learning about growth mindset.

This helped us:

To work as part of a team

To be encouraging to others

To be positive

To have fun

To try our very best

Sustainability Showcase – March 2017

Sustainability showcase was lots of fun and thank you to all the pupils who helped out on the day. Here are a few snaps of the pupils work completed for our homework wall. Also here are some on the day shots taken by pupils at the stall.

Congratulations to our Wildlife Certificate holders. It was really lovely to hear about and see the detail of the things you are doing to look after and see wildlife in our local area.

Working together for Red Nose Day

Thank you to my P3 class for their kind donations for dress down day and their hard work selling our tasty “wildlife and habitats” themed cakes at our showcase in the Dumyat Community Centre. All the money raised is being donated to Red Nose Day!!! We had great fun opening our noses to see what character we got.

We raised a fantastic £106

P3 Bug Hotel

HOorah!!! Well done P3 for designing, sourcing, preparing and finally constructing our epic Bug Hotel. It has been a busy and exciting time to be in school. We have learned a lot, we have laughed a lot and we have successfully constructed a 5 star bug hotel.

We are taking reservations now.

A massive thank you to everyone involved in helping us to create this little sanctuary for the local wildlife.

P3E Dance

For the past few weeks P3E have been working on dance in PE. The pupils have choreographed their own moves and worked very hard. I was allowed in for a sneak preview last week and this is what I captured.

A huge Thank you for all our donations so far for our Sustainable bug hotel.

Today we have introduced our topic homework wall. These will be in schoolbags tonight accompanied with dates for completion. You have a choice of two tasks from the grid to complete.

There will also be an additional health week task issued in the next couple of weeks.

Spelling and Maths homework will resume after Thursday 23rd March.

McTough Event

On the 3rd of March the McTough Team came an set up an obstacle course for everyone to try. This was a brilliant day of challenge and fun.

Clavin ” I rolled under it and ran like crazy”

Logan Mc ” I used my arms to get over the big fence”

Jenni ” I thought it was quite tricky but I will practice for next time”

Worm charming and more…

In preparation for building our epic Bug Hotel we have been learning a lot about habitats and food chains. As part of this learning we have linked up with P2G and the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

On Friday the 24th of February the team from TCV came in to show us how worms impact our environment and how we can protect and use worms to make compost. The children were lead through the art of Worm Charming which encourages worms to come to the surface of the ground. We learned that by jumping up and down and making vibrations on the ground the worms are tricked into thinking it is raining and they come to the surface. The children collected some worms from our surroundings before making a wormery for our open area. We are now adding fruit peelings that we eat in school to help the worms to break down the left over waster into compost which we can use in our school planting patches.

A big thank you to Rosie and the team

at TCV for helping us to learn about worms and composting.

P3 Bug Hotel Design Workshop

In P3 we have decided to create a Bug Hotel as part of our Sustainability project. The pupils started to plan and create Bug Hotel designs today. It is a really exciting opportunity for the two classes to work together. As part of this activity we discussed that there are certain types of materials that will help us create a sustainable bug hotel.  We will now be working to put these ideas into a wish list so we can start our work.
