Primary 5 have been given the responsibility of handing out Christmas cards to all of the classes!
We have noticed that lots of people have been doing this themselves and would like to encourage pupils to use the Christmas Postbox in the school. You will find this outside the school office!
If you do plan to do this, please make sure yourself or your child writes the name and the class on their envelopes!
There are a number of exciting things happening across the school that we’d like to share with you!
In Primary 1, many parents have been visiting for our successful ‘Stay and Play’ sessions. These will continue into November. P1 parents can come Wednesdays from 9:00 – 9:45am.
Primary 2 have begun the ‘Read Write Inc.’ literacy programme, which is designed to create fluent readers, confident speakers and willing writers. The boys and girls are really enjoying their work! Primary 1, 3 and 4 will begin towards the end of November.
Primary 4 and Primary 7 enjoyed a trip to Perth for a Scots reading of Fantastic Mr Fox. Children watched the film and reviewed using Scots language.
Primary 5 have a new class member – Junior the snail! The children have been learning how to care for him and have been excitedly sharing this with children across the school.
Primary 6 (along with those in Craigbank and Fishcross) are currently participating in the Youth Music Initiative Clackmannanshire Brass Project. All children have been given an instrument to take home. The children are learning how to play them in school and will demonstrate their skills along with the other schools in a performance later in the school year.
Primary 7 children will be involved in the ‘Max in the Middle’ project next week. Across the week, the class will focus on various scenarios regarding healthy living: preparing and tasting food; being physically active; reflecting on their experiences, and transforming their learning into a drama and dance-based performance for parents and carers on Friday 4th November.
This years sponsored event is The McTOUGH kids Obstacle Course and will take place on Wednesday 9th November 2016.
The course consists of a climbing wall, cargo net, ninja rings and tunnels. The company providing the equipment are fully trained and insured.
All pupils will need a change of clothes/shoes and a towel as there is the high possibility your child will get muddy/wet. We cannot predict the Scottish weather and the event will go ahead hail, rain or shine.
Parents are invited to come along and watch your child or perhaps you would like to join in and raise some sponsor money yourself. (forms available from school office)

On 1st September the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon in cooperation with the Scottish Book Trust, launched the ‘First Minister’s Reading Challenge’. The challenge is for Scottish school children in Primary 4-7 and is intended to encourage reading for entertainment and to promote a life long love of literature.
There are a range of challenges to encourage children to go on their own reading journeys, explore different types of books and celebrate personal reading achievements. The Reading Challenge aims to support schools and communities to develop reading cultures.
The First Minister’s Reading Challenge will run from September 2016 until May 2017 and there will be a celebration event in June 2017, where good practice from across the country will be showcased and prizes awarded. Details of the various challenges can be found here.
This week all children in Primary 4-7 will be provided with their own Reading Passport in which they can track their ‘reading journey’. Updates about our progress throughout this challenge will be shared at regular intervals.
More information for parents about the reading challenge is available on the reading challenge website along with some hints and tips on how to promote reading for enjoyment at home.
Next session we will be welcoming Mrs Kelly, our new Depute Head Teacher, and Miss Fox, a new class teacher.
We will also be supported by another teacher who is yet to be confirmed, and Mrs Hutchison as part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge.
It is possible that your child may have another teacher for up to one day a week to release their class teacher from class to work on school improvement and the Scottish Attainment Challenge. You will receive further information next session during the ‘Meet The Teacher’ events.
Classes and class teachers will be as follows for 2016/17.
Children will meet with their new class teacher on 16 or 17 June.
Primary 1 – Miss Yarrow
Primary 2 – Miss Wyman
Primary 3 – Miss Garioch
Primary 4 – Mrs Kelly and Mrs Stevenson
Primary 5 – Miss Fox
Primary 6 – Mr Bryson

During this term you will receive your child’s end of session written report. We would like to take this opportunity to advise you the format of the report has been refreshed.
As you are aware, reporting comprises a range of activities including written reports, children presenting their learning to you, parents’ consultation meetings and on-going discussions. A working group was established earlier this session and the new ‘My Year of Learning’ document is the result of a process of consultation with a group of schools and nurseries.
We value our partnerships with families and welcome your views. As a result there will be an opportunity for all parents/carers to give feedback on the new format after the reports have been issued.
