We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded Rights Respecting Schools – Silver Rights Aware status. Silver – Rights Aware is the second stage of the Rights Respecting Schools Award.
The award is granted by UNICEF UK to schools that show good progress towards embedding children’s rights in their policy, practice and ethos. The school was assessed by one of UNICEF UK’s Professional Advisers who looked at the whole school’s rights respecting work.
Achieving Silver: Rights Aware means that Deerpark is embedding the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, promotes knowledge and understanding of the UNCRC throughout the school community and is seeing a positive impact of this on the school’s ethos, practice and environment.
The whole school community are delighted their efforts have been recognised and are now aiming to become a Gold Rights Respecting School.
“Bullying is both behaviour and impact; the impact is on a person’s capacity to feel in control of themselves. This is what we term as their sense of ‘agency’.
Bullying takes place in the context of relationships; it is behaviour that can make people feel hurt, threatened, frightened and left out.
This behaviour happens face to face and online”. (respectme, 2015)
We have, and will continue to work as a staff, and with families and learners to create and maintain a culture where bullying is seen as unacceptable, and where instances are found to exist, is addressed quickly.
Bullying should never be seen as a typical part of growing up.
At Deerpark Primary School we understand that positive relationships and behaviour are key to all learning.
As a staff, we recognise that children achieve best when they learn in a safe, nurturing and structured environment where high standards are expected, demonstrated and maintained.
