In our class we have a class charter that stands on top of the white board. Everyone in the class made a small person and stuck them into the wall, along with that we wrote down different rights that we have and that are important to us at school (after looking at the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child www.unicef.org/rightsite/files/uncrcchilldfriendlylanguage.pdf).
Along with that we made different speech bubbles that said what pupils and adults will do to protect these rights.
Pupils agreed they would:
- We will look after school property and resources by usi ng it correctly and keeping it tidy
- We will be sensible, responsible and trustworthy
- We will keep trying if we are stuck and we will not give up by concentrating and working hard and quietly
- We will be positive and kind to others by treating people how you want to be treated
- We will listen others
Adults agreed to:
Provide resources to pupils, give everybody a chance to be responsible by given out task and jobs, come and help if you are stuck, be kind and respectful to pupils, encourage group work with lots of different people, make sure pupils are treating each other kindly, be positive and a good example for pupils, be enthusiastic and interesting, to listen to pupils, give everyone a chance to share their thoughts, ensure others are listening are listening when someone is talking.
We did this in the first few weeks of term.
