Book Club – Reading – Hot – The Ickabog – Chapter 1

Good morning everyone and welcome back to Methlick’s Book Club!

I hope that you have enjoyed your first week of Expressive Arts fortnight. This week, I have read chapter 1 of J.K. Rowling’s new book , ‘The Ickabog’. Have you managed to read the first chapter too?

Your questions to answer this week:

  • What is your opinion of the story so far? Share what you like or dislike.
  • Making predictions – Now that you have read Chapter 1, what do you think will happen next? Is there going to be a main character and who might they be?

You will find my responses in the comments.

Please share your responses in the comments and let’s all talk about The Ickabog!

Book Club – Reading – Hot – The Ickabog

Good morning everyone and welcome back to Methlick’s Book Club!

Have you heard that J.K. Rowling has recently released a new story titled ‘The Ickabog’? It is free and will be published online throughout the coming months.

Instead of us all reading different books, I thought it would be lovely if we read this new story together. Each week, we will read a new chapter, discuss the story so far and complete activities. Activities will be posted on a Monday and we will discuss our responses on a Friday.

J.K. Rowling has also challenged children to create illustrations for the book that will be published later in the year. More information on this competition can be found at – https://bit.ly/2zzey5x

Book Club – Reading – Hot – Week 2

Good morning everyone and welcome back to Methlick’s Book Club!

I hope that you have enjoyed your second week of Health fortnight. Hopefully, you have all been reading for enjoyment, just like me!

I have been reading ‘The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse’ by Charlie Mackesy.

What have you been reading? Let us know in the comments!

Your questions to answer this week:

  • Select one or two main characters from your book. If you could ask them three questions to learn more about them, what would they be? Write down your questions and try to answer them as if you were that character.

You will find my responses in the comments.

‘Being Healthy’ – Spicy Poem

Last week I posted a poem on the subject of mental wellbeing.  This week’s poem focuses on Personal and Physical Wellbeing.  First, read the poem or listen to the audio clip, then answer the questions in my Sway.  You may need to do a little research in order to answer some of them.

Being healthy

Mum says I have to brush my teeth
In the morning and at night.
They look and taste much better
But I hate it when she’s right.

Dad says I have to take a bath
And wash my body well.
I do feel nice and clean and fresh
But now he’s right as well!

My brother says I have to wash
My hands to keep them clean.
He’s right, my fingers feel so good
Without dirt in between.

My sister says I have to eat
Some vegetables each day.
She’s right, I have more energy
To run and walk and play.

I feel more healthy and I’ve got
Much better teeth and skin.
Don’t tell them that I think they’re right –
I hate it when they win!

Gillian Craig

Listen to it being read aloud here.

Now answer the questions.  As always, don’t forget to write in complete sentences (not one-word answers) and check that you have included capital letters and full stops.

Mild Literacy – Book Bear Club #2

Thank you to everyone who has joined the Book Bear Club.

Dot would like to share another of her favourite books with you.

‘The Cloudspotter’ by Tom McLaughlin

We read the story together at our thoughtful spot just when the sun was lower in the sky, it was very peaceful.

Have you spotted anything in the clouds?

This is what Dot and I have spotted.

By the way ,on Tuesday Dot shared the story ‘The Bad Tempered Ladybird’

I have always wondered if a ladybird could be bad tempered as I am rather fond of them.

This link takes you to the Countryside Classroom where they investigate this question. (a lot of text )

On page 3 they answer some questions

On page 5 they tell you how to make ladybirds happy.
