Houston we have an omelette!

P6R took part in in the European Space Agency Eggnaut Challenge.  In groups they had to design a reentry capsule to allow their “eggnaut” to land safely.

The design brief allowed them only a specific amount and type of materials: straws, lolly pop sticks, elastic bands, paper, string and masking tape – as well as their raw egg.

The children worked well together on their designs, before we launched our eggs to see whether we could announce

“Houston we have an eggnaut” or,

“Houston we have an omelette!”

We discovered that those eggnauts who landed safely had been placed in a capsule where they were protected with some kind of padding, and their descent was slowed down by a parachute.

Well done P6R, you have worked so hard this term across all areas of the curriculum. Have a great holiday!

Fine motor sessions & Judo

Fine Motor Starts

Four days each week we start our day with fine-motor activities.  Each colour group visits a different table each time.  We are improving our finger strength to make sure our fingers can grip and control a pencil or pen effectivley.  Take a look at the activities which are improving our pincer grips.

Hama beads and pom pom picking.

Jewel tracks

Peg boards and loom bands on to the lollipop sticks.

Big beads on to string and little beads on to the pipe cleaners.

Judo Taster sessions

We got changed into our PE clothes for the first time when we went to our Judo taster session.  We decided not to change out t-shirts this time!

Well done, P1A!

We found out how to fall safely and how to flip someone over.  We all listened really well and took turns.

Roller coaster fun in P5/6

It it was great to hear P5/6 presenting their roller coasters this morning. Lots of thought and effort has gone into creating these and the results were fantastic. The groups had to show cooperation as they worked together to solve many problems which arose.  As you can see from the photos they were also very resourceful and made use of he environment and furniture around them.

This has been a great project for the class to get stuck into to develop many STEM skills in a fun and practical way.

Primary 5 recap ‘the best term ever!’

Term one was certainly a busy time for Primary 5! This morning we have taken some time to reflect and have shared some of our favourite memories, things we have learnt, times where we have felt confident and looked at the skills we have developed. We have also been thinking about what our targets are for next term.

Mrs Stephen has been incredibly impressed by the children’s knowledge, attitudes and enthusiasm for learning and is very much looking forward to term 2 together! Well done Primary 5, have a wonderful holiday! 🙂

Autumn Adventures in Nursery.

We have been learning all about seasons and have had lots of fun exploring Autumn.

The children have brought lots of examples to enhance their learning.

Eli found a discarded snail’s shell and this prompted the idea for Conker art.

So the conkers became snails…..

Ewan brought fossils in and told us all about them and with our leaf collection we explored dinosaurs…….

The acorns took us on a literary journey with Chicken Licken…

Mrs Reid’s apple harvest helped us to practice our hammering skills…

Our Autumn walks have also given us loads of learning opportunities and more leaves to use…..

What a lot of Autumn fun…….

A musical treat

Hill of Banchory were treated to a musical extravaganza this morning. Some musicians from the charity ‘Live music now’ visited  us. They played some  fun and traditional Scottish music on the fiddles, guitar and flute. They taught us some songs and we joined in with some Scots songs. They definitely inspired us to play and learn music.
