Pond dippers in Nursery

Well this was a first for HOB Nursery, pond dipping and what fun we had. We walked to a nearby stream and we listened intently to the safety briefing!! It took a little while to master the walking in the water with stones underfoot. The children were equipped in waterproofs and wellies so although we had a few “water sit downs” and splashes it was only our socks that got wet when the water splashed over the top of our wellies. The game we played to build our water confidence was “ hunt the painted stone “ and all the children retrieved one. We used natural resources to fit in with our surroundings. We then started “ dipping “ checking side areas where the water flow is slower and there is more chance of living creatures. We analysed our findings checking the charts to identify, water beetles, spiders, shrimps and larvae. We returned all our finds to their natural habitat. Thank you so much to our mummy helpers and well done to all our “water explorers”.

Thank you again to all our helpers and happy holidays to all our children and families.
