In Primary 1 we used the squishy app to follow the guide to create specific creations. We had to work as a team and gather the specific items we needed.
We had great surprise when we were able to show others that we had created the design from the guide on our table.
In P1, we started using squishy circuits. Mr.Mutch made some conductor playdough because it had to be kneaded when it was hot but we worked as a team to make some insulator playdough in school.
A conductor allows electricity to pass through.
An insulator stops electricity from passing through.
We learned about the flow of electricity, we had to make sure that the electrons could return home to the battery and also go through the L.E.D we wanted to light up.
We used different components and explored how they worked, including a fan, switch and a buzzer.
We were then tasked to be creative and make a squishy creature that could light up. We made an octopus, snowmen and a dinosaur.
We had great fun.
In P1 we were really excited to look at what was being posted on the blog. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing what each class are getting upto. As a class we noticed that we don’t see any faces of the people in the other classes.
Mr.Mutch spoke to us about the internet and how fast things can travel. Mr.Mutch said that he can send photos to our parents on Seesaw because we know that only certain people can see it and that is safe. However, if we post something on our school blog then anyone around the world can visit the blog.
Therefore to keep our names and faces safe we have made Electricity themed characters, which we can’t wait to voice them and share with you our learning.
In P1 we have used copper tape to create a simple circuit, however, Mr. Mutch told us to leave a gap.
When we attached the battery prongs and the L.E.D we had to make sure they were placed a certain way.
Then Mr.Mutch gave us some objects to place on the gap. We found out that when certain things connect the circle up then the electricity can pass through and the L.E.D will light up.
After we sorted all the objects Mr.Mutch told us that objects that allow electricity to pass through are called conductors and things that don’t allow electricity to pass are called insulators.
We were always surprised when the light went on.
Primary 1 have explored where our power comes from…
Power can come from a Battery or by plugging into the Mains (or the socket in the wall)
Most of us thought that the plug had all the electricity, we now understand that electricity travels through the plug into whatever we want power to.
In pairs we worked together to sort out household items into whether they use Mains or Battery.
At the end we played this game that we think you will enjoy too. We suggest that you play it as the game show or the alien race
Play the Game!
Primary 1 went for a walk around the village of Methlick. We were looking for things that used power.
We found many examples and we took some photos to share with you all.
It turns out that many things use power in Methlick because we were pointing so many different things out.
However, we were left with one big question… Where does all this power come from?
