Being Nature Smart is having a curiosity for the world around us, whether that’s bugs and rocks, clouds and weather or stars and planets.
If you have a garden, love plants or animals, dip your toes into rivers, lochs and seas, or just like walking in the outdoors, then you have got some nature smarts!
Check out our Nature Smart examples below:
Building in the woods
In term 1, teams drew a sketch of a famous landmark and then went out into the woods to build the landmarks with collected materials. The children built the Burge Khalifa, Tower Bridge, The Leaning Tower of Pisa and (pictured below), the London Eye.
Playing Sports Outdoors
We had several P4-6 students playing in the Ythan B-League during term 1. They were very excited to win both the league and the cup again this year, playing in the wind and rain! (Big shout out to all the parent helpers for making this possible again this year!)
There is no bad weather, only bad clothing choices
These are older pictures because we haven’t had the snow yet, but another excellent outdoor activity which includes nature smarts (but also body, number/logic, people and even a bit of picture smarts) is building snowmen.
For the snowman pictured with Kai, the children had to build a ramp and then work together to push the second giant snowball on top of the first. (The ramp was then turned into the snowman’s wife!)
