Eilidh’s Achievements

On January 7th  I went to Bathgate for a cross country race. It was quite sunny when I got there but I was worried that it would be very wet.

The race was exactly 1 mile and my time was  6:42.

Me and a girl from Edinburgh  were at the front and it ended up being a sprint finish and I won. I was really happy and my legs were very sore for a while.

P5-7 Learning

This week we have been working on Place Value in Maths.

This game helped us to practise placing numbers on a number line. There are lots of different levels.

And this activity can be used to practise ordering numbers, again lots of different levels to choose from.

We also looked at writing numbers in words and digits. If you want to watch a video explanation, open the pdf below and scan the QR code on the first page. There are some questions to try too if you wish.

In Literacy, we looked at Scots and Doric poems in preparation for our Burns Celebration on the 25th January.

Click here to listen to some poems being read by the folk from Scots Hoose and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

In French we were revising words for different items of clothing. Next we will be practising saying… I am wearing…. he is wearing…

Electrical Circuits

This week P5-7  have been finishing off a topic we started last term. We have been learning about electricity- making and drawing circuit diagrams, finding out about conductors and insulators and then using what we’ve learned to solve a design problem. We made burglar alarms, with hidden triggers which set off a buzzer or lit a bulb when pressed. We also created  light-up pictures using conductive copper tape.

The House Boards

On friday, we decided to redesign the house boards we made for the houses. I am in the mountain hares. The other people in the mountian hares are, Alexis, Lucas, Ella, Anna, Sophie, Ernest and me! For the board, I made an acrostic poem, I cut out some things and I learnt more about printing.  I could use this skill by helping to print out things and making poems.

Fluffs and Rufts Dog Show -play in P5-7

Pupils in Room 3 planned and organised a dog show, inspired by Crufts and by the arrival of Storm, a beautiful husky soft toy. The children involved created application forms for each of the categories, advertised the event through posters around school, created certificates and rosettes and then set up the room with an agility course on the afternoon of the event. Almost every child in the school turned up with a dog on Thursday. The dogs were very well behaved in the morning and then took to the stage in the afternoon.🐶
So much fun and so many skills developed by the show committee.
Well done Eilidh, Alexis, Sophie and Libby.

Our experience at St Margaret’s church

On the 22nd of March we went to St Margaret’s church, both the older class and younger class. When we arrived at the church, the musicians played music on a violin, a viola and a harp. The songs they played were white nights and much more. There was someone called Sheena Blackhall who read us stories and legends. Then we were set a task to write our own legends, true or not. In between break and lunch we were at school writing and the younger class drawing monsters. After lunch we went back to the church and some of the younger class showed their pictures and some of the older class shared their stories and the people who read and showed got music played along while the were presantating.

Red nose day

Last Friday as it was red nose day we did some events in the afternoon. All the events cost 10p to enter to raise money for comic relief. There was a target throwing event, a selfie booth ,scavenger hunt, design a red nose, joke competition ,and dress in red or silly clothes.

In total we raised about £95.

It was really fun and I really enjoyed it.

And we could also buy a red nose for £1.50.
