Course Content:
Have you loved your Art and Design education so far and would love to take the subject further but never want to paint a portrait or design a piece of jewellery again? Well then this is the course for you as you finally get to choose Expressive or Design! Hurrah!
This course provides an opportunity for students to pursue their interests in Art & Design in S6, through a considered personal choice of theme. The course allows for learners to choose to study either expressive or design which will comprise of a coherent folio presentation of work as follows:
– An Expressive or Design Unit with integrated Art & Design Studies
Course details
You will be required to choose to study either Art & Design: (Expressive Studies) with an Expressive Enquiry of practical work or Art & Design (Design Studies) with a Design Enquiry of practical work.
Whichever discipline is chosen, you will independently plan research and investigation into the work of artists or designers, to produce a coherent body of work with clear, relevant factual information and substantiated judgements about the artist or designer, and the contexts which inform their practice.
In your chosen discipline, you will identify suitable stimuli, produce creative research, and investigate for an agreed practical project in either Expressive or Design. In either enquiry, you will develop and refine a series of experimental development ideas using previous research and investigation to inform your work.
Assessment:
The practical folio and critical enquiry will be continuously assessed throughout the course. The folio comprising practical and critical work will be sent to SQA for external assessment. Pupils should note that there is no final exam for this course.
Work done during the course can be used as the basis of a folio presentation for Further Education or Art College courses.
