To celebrate David Walliams’ 10th book (or 9th) he has written 10 short stories about really horrible children and it is brilliant.
The Characters
The stories consists of 10 children with 10 very different children with 10 very different gripes. From a sleepy drooling boy; to a farting tuba playing girl and a half-human-half-sofa girl and other horrid children.
Introduction
Very often the introduction to books are overlooked but in this book you should read the intro. After the contents page is David Walliams’ thank you messages to various colleagues and family – including their troublesome childhood antics. Followed by David’s recurring character Raj, who features in every book, writing a complaining letter about his absence from this book. Raj’s letter could well be the funniest part of the entire collection.
Opinions
It is full of puns and jokes and the teachers who feature in the book always have the most ridiculous names, it’s a classic humorous story on par with the magnificent Roald Dahl, and kids will often find personality traits that they share with some of the characters – who likes tidying their room, who trumps and then blame the smell on someone else, who clumsily breaks and damages items all the time?
Favourite Story
There were sections in all the stories where I laughed and chuckled. Raj’s intro was fantastic. I also like the clever ending in the first story Dribbling Drew, also Nigel Nitboy and his army of head lice was funny, being a superhero is overrated being a super-villain is the way to go! Miss Petula Perpetual-Motion was a funny story especially when the teachers thought it would be a good idea to put her inside a giant hamster ball so she couldn’t damage things – that didn’t go to plan as you can imagine.
Kev Says
Really funny and amusing book, David Walliams is brilliant: 6 out of 7 on the Kev-o-meter!
