BBC School News Report 2015

DSC_0081

For BBC School News Report this year we traveled all the way to North East Scotland College so that we could use some of the technology they have to help us throughout the day.

Our Team this year consisted of; Erin, Caitlin, Rachel, Hayley, Lanya, Jordan, Amy, Josh, Joe, Rebekah, Brittany,Cameron, Nicole, Jake,  Mr Rae, Miss Darroch and Miss Smith. Fiona Stalker from the BBC came back to help us this year and many students from North East College helped out too. The staff and students allowed us to use their television and radio facilities, which was a great insight into the college courses as well as being able to produce good stories to publish.

The day was very busy, from our 8:30 start all the way to our 16:00 finish. With news coming from Pittodrie, Aberdeen City Council and even from Alex Salmond’s car! The day was full of events which kept us busy, although it was a rush to get things done: just like a real news room. BBC School News Report was really fun this year and being able to use equipment at the college was better for the quality of our work produced.

The day was a great success!

We would like to thank everyone who took part this year, it was great! 🙂

Listen to BBC Radio Scotland bulletins tomorrow morning to hear staff and pupils talk about their experiences of BBC School Report.

Thursday 19 March sees Northfield Academy take part in BBC School Report 2015. This year, we will be working with North East Scotland College at the Gallowgate in Aberdeen with media students, sharing their abilities in producing TV and radio.

The team will be visiting Pittodrie Stadium to interview Aberdeen Football Club players about their journey this year, as well as reporting on the progress of the 3rd Don Crossing. Aberdeen City Council leader, Jenny Laing will be coming in for a visit and we may even have an interview with a famous politician.

Aberdeen’s own Tim Baillie will be joining us on the phone to share his experiences of winning medals and the effort required to succeed as part of our focus on career options.

Archiving the 3rd Don Crossing

A team of pupils from both Northfield and St Machar Academies are archiving the development of the 3rd Don Crossing in Aberdeen.

Once a month, the team will be visiting the construction site and building a portfolio of images and videos archiving the construction of the bridge.

Earlier this month, they braved the snow and met with Project Manager, Ken Brown, who gave a detailed insight into the overall process.

Welcome

This year, Northfield Academy will be participating in the BBC News School Report on 19th of March.

Since 2007, BBC News School Report has been giving 11-16 year-olds across the UK the opportunity to make and broadcast their own news. This film helps explain more about the project and how it works.

With support from BBC staff, teachers can use lessons plans and resources from the School Report website to help students create their reports.

And on the annual News Day in March, all the students work to a deadline, producing and publishing their content onto their school’s dedicated webpage, which the BBC links to, giving their stories a real audience.
