Explore Learning

Letters of the week: c and k

Numbers of the week: 7 and 8

This week we were lucky enough to take part in a numeracy workshop from Explore Learning. We had great fun collecting information and arranging the information in the form of human bar charts. We then discussed what kinds of things we would need if we went to the beach. We used this information to colour in our own bar charts.

We created shape monsters using different 2D shapes. We then wrote mini stories about our monsters. We had to think of a name for our monster, list the shapes we used to make them and describe what kind of monster they were.

Phonics: we have been revising our sounds this week. We played different games to help us spell and read different words.

We really enjoyed constructing a den for Baby Bear using lego. We had to think about what Baby Bear would need to keep him safe from the wolf.

Trip and Tea

This term the children will have P.E on a Tuesday and a Friday. Please make sure your child has their P.E kit in school by Tuesday 1st November.

The sounds we have been learning this week are d and e.

All of the primary 1 children did a fantastic job performing for the ladies and gentleman who came to visit our school as part of the trip and tea. Well done primary 1.

We have been talking about autumn this week and have been looking at conkers. The children had fun thinking of different words to describe conkers. Here are some of our suggestions: hard, smooth, brown, prickly and rough.

We made Elmer masks by block printing different coloured squares.

In maths this week we have been counting using concrete objects.

We also created a bar chart to find out what the most popular colour in the class was. Yellow was the most popular.

Making Music

Numeracy – we now know how to form the numbers 0 to 5 correctly.

Literacy – our letters this week are r and m. Ask your child to show you the actions for these sounds. Our tricky words are: me, my and am.

Music – in music this week we learned how to play a range of different instruments in time with the story. We used the story of Elmer and the Butterfly as our stimulus. We had to think of different jungle sounds and match the instruments to the sound. We had lots of fun.

Numeracy: we learned how to make a pictograph. We voted for our favourite Elmer story. The winning story was Elmer and the Butterfly.

Have a lovely holiday!

Elmer eats all the ice cream

Elmer goes to Sea World

Elmer rides a skateboard

We know how to use the magnetic letters to build words.

We had lots of fun writing our tricky words.

During our ICT time we designed pictures using our favourite colour. We can list lots of objects that are the colour eg. Pink.
