Broomhill School P5/6 Room 15

Room 15 were delighted to meet Dr Kirsteen MacKenzie from Aberdeen University today.  We listened intently as Dr MacKenzie told us about the fascinating discovery of  a diary written by an “ordinary working man” caught up in the chaos of the 18th century Jacobite rebellions. The diary was written by Alexander Smith, a joiner from Fraserburgh, born in the late 17th century. We enjoyed a visit from John the Jacobite. He told us lots of interesting information about life during Jacobite times. We had a look at weapons they used and clothes they wore during that time.

P5/6 enjoyed an action-packed storytelling and drama workshop based on the remarkable story of the outwitting of the Hanoverian Army by a handful of Jacobite supporters.

We are delighted that our door was voted the best design this week. We worked very hard and are so pleased with the final result. Thank you so much to all the boys and girls who voted for us. Our prize for winning was a selection of books for our class library 😄

We created our own book covers today. We wrote a blurb for one of our favourite books. Then we created a new front cover for our books including all the important information. Take a look at our work in progress.

We go togetherwith Primary 1 Room 5 to do some paired reading. The boys and girls had a great time sharing their books.

As part of world book day we got together with Room 5 to complete a treasure hunt. Great fun was had by all.

We have been very busy designing and creating our door design. As a class we chose to create a Tom Gates door. We are very pleased with our final result. Everyone has made a contribution to the final design 🚪🖌🚪

• Shrove Tuesday is celebrated the day before Ash Wednesday.
• It is the final day before the commencement of Lent, a Christian festival leading up to Easter Sunday. 🥞

We used cooperative learning strategies this afternoon. We worked together in groups to produce an information board about Shrove Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and Lent. Have a look at our results!
