Primary 6 research task 🌋

We were reading the book called “Fire Mountain.”. This is a story about the terrible eruption of Vesuvius over Pompeii. We would like to share some of our research about Volcanoes. Thank you to Mrs Reid who came in to look at all our amazing facts.

Junk Modelling with Room 4!!!!!

On Wednesday we made junk model chairs with Primary 1 Room 4. They were reading a book called ‘There’s a Bear on my Chair’. That inspired them to ask us to help them to make the chairs. We made the chairs for a chosen teddy bear. They asked us because they thought our inventions were amazing. All the finished chairs looked fabulous. We had a great time and they did too.

Our Visit To Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre

P5/6 visited The Mosque on Monday. Sister Mumtaz gave us a tour. We learned so much about Islam. Here are some of the things we found out:

  • We had to take our shoes off . There was a special carpet with lines for prayer.
  • Muslims pray towards Makkah in Saudi Arabia.
  • The Kabba is a building at the centre of Islam’s most sacred mosque in Mecca.
  • We saw The Qur’an and it was written in Arabic.

We were given snack and then we were allowed to try on some scarves and hats. We have some photos to show you:

Tom’s Midnight Garden

We have been reading the book Tom’s Midnight Garden by Philippa Pearce. We have been busy making a class display. We all had a task to do. The first group enjoyed painting the character of Tom. Another group painted Hatty. The group making the background enjoyed sponge painting. We all had to make the flowers for the garden. We worked together and would like to share our progress so far….

Engineering week

This week we have been engineers. We have had to do 4 different tasks throughout the week. We were learning about how vending machines work, we made tables out of newspaper, cardboard and tape. We designed a chair with a partner and we learned about oil and how oil and water don’t mix. A man and a woman came in and told us about what it’s like to be an engineer and they told us about their oil companies. We also had a celebration event on Friday afternoon with the whole school. The classes favourite part of the week was the vending machine task.
