We have been having lots of fun outdoors recently. We have been going for walks around the school grounds and have been taking part in different activities along the way. We have been singing, playing games and had a shape hunt. We all really enjoyed playing the Grand Old Duke of York on the hill.
We have been working really hard on identifying shapes and sizes for our numeracy focus.
This week we have been working on both our fine and gross motor skills, our own personal safety and learning about where we live in the world. Having fantastic fun along the way. Here is just a few snapshots of our learning this week!
The afternoon children enjoy painting, whether that be painting the hut which we completed last week or painting the ground with water when it is a dry day. This week we used spices, mixed with some water to paint, which can be done at home.
The afternoon nursery have been creating their own rockets, as part of learning about Bonfire Night. The children decorated their paper and then asked a teacher to help them assemble, developing their imagination and fine motor skills as some of the pieces were tricky to pick up and glue.
We have been having lots of fun this week, decorating, exploring and carving pumpkins.
We were using our fine motor skills to explore the inside of a pumpkin, the boys and girls thought they looked like spider webs, and using the seeds in our home corner. The children decided they wanted to decorate the pumpkin instead of carving it. The children chose the colours of paint and added some glitter to make it extra “special.” The children worked as part of a team to completely cover the pumpkin in paint, taking turns when it was necessary.
Due to the rather wet weather we came inside for the second half of the session, and enjoyed playing with different equipment. A new favourite is the matching meerkat game. Some of the children were matching the meerkats to what teacher they thought they could be. There was many variations, and we even matched some to our friends.
This is one of our favourite songs to listen to this week as we have been talking about emotions and how we are feeling.
The afternoon nursery have been having fun exploring pumpkins this week. So far we have helped carve the top of the pumpkin to have a look inside. We used our sense of touch to help scoop out the inside of the pumpkin and play with the guts. We then used our sense of smell to decide whether we liked the smell or not using thumbs up or thumbs down.
We will carve another pumpkin later on in the week, after we have chosen which kind of features we want to pumpkin to have.
This week the boys and girls have been continuing to take it in turns to read the story at together time, as well as taking turns when speaking to our friends.
We have had lots of fun learning how to tap dance:
Together we have been working on our fine motor skills through some of our activities:
We have also been singing outdoors, our main song has been the days of the week song.
Below is a video with the song and lyrics to the days of the week song, so you can sing along with your child if you wish to over the holidays.
We have been very busy the last couple of weeks, getting settled back in and welcoming new friends. We have started Play on Pedals with some of the Pre-School children which is going well. We have been spending most of our time outside and have been enjoying building, creating, drawing, stories, dancing and just having FUN.
