Drum Castle Advent Calendar.

This year Drum Castle are attempting to turn into a giant advent calendar. As part of this Quarryhill have been selected to design a picture for one of the windows of the castle. The theme for the calendar was Christmas Past. Children from primary 7 worked with Mrs Thain to design their picture that will be displayed at the castle.

The Castle will be open to the public on Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th, Saturday 14th, Sunday 15th December from 11am until 4pm for our annual HollyFest event. The windows will remain on display until January 6th 2014 (Twelfth Night).

If anyone goes to the castle to see the picture could you please take a picture and email it to the school.

We would like to thank Mrs Thain for working with the children to create such a wonderful display.

P7 Haughton Park Visit

Haughton Park Visits

Our primary 7 class have been working with The Reading Bus and Music Without Bars in the project- Aberdeen, My Place in the Natural World.

Aberdeen, My Place in the Natural World, aims to empower young people from Aberdeen to develop new creative digital media to celebrate and share the outstanding beauty of four Country Parks in the North-East of Scotland. Our primary 7 class have been focusing on Haughton Park, Alford.

This has been a very exciting opportunity for our pupils to work with a team of professional artists, attend site visits to the different parks, research each through a series of; poems, storytelling, artwork, photography, and interview local rangers and residents, to record a unique geographical impression of the areas. Back in school, creative specialists have worked with pupils to create media resources inspired by the findings that will be translated into sonic maps, promo-trailers, podcasts and an ebook amongst others.

Vocal Tutor and Choir

Mr Miller will return on Thursday 12th September to start working with our new classes again. We are very excited to see him on Thursday. Choir will restart on Thursday lunchtime and is open to p4 – p7 pupils.
Our choir are already booked to go and sing at St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh next year.
We hope to see lots of boys and girls at choir on Thursday.

Rotary Club Quiz

Last week Katie, Jordan, Ciara and Olivia, in primary 7 represented Quarryhill at the Rotary Club quiz heats. The girls had to answer ten rounds of general knowledge questions and compete against 8 other schools. Not only did the girls represent themselves fantastically well but they also won the quiz with an amazing score of 50/60! They will now represent Quarryhill at the regional finals in May!
Well done girls, we are so proud of you all!

P3 Open Afternoon

On Wednesday afternoon primary 3 invited their parents into the Great Pyramid. Parents got a change to see pupils work, make a cartouche, played ancient Egyption games and even got tea and cake.
All the children had a great time showing their parents the fantastic work that has been going on in room 8.
