Drum Castle Advent Calendar.

This year Drum Castle are attempting to turn into a giant advent calendar. As part of this Quarryhill have been selected to design a picture for one of the windows of the castle. The theme for the calendar was Christmas Past. Children from primary 7 worked with Mrs Thain to design their picture that will be displayed at the castle.

The Castle will be open to the public on Saturday 7th, Sunday 8th, Saturday 14th, Sunday 15th December from 11am until 4pm for our annual HollyFest event. The windows will remain on display until January 6th 2014 (Twelfth Night).

If anyone goes to the castle to see the picture could you please take a picture and email it to the school.

We would like to thank Mrs Thain for working with the children to create such a wonderful display.

Christmas Fair

Quarryhill Christmas Fair takes place on Saturday 30th November from 10am – 12noon. There will be lots of stall including a games room, bottle stall, handbags and crafts.
Friends of Quarryhill are looking for donations of homebaking to sell on the day. If you have any homebaking to donate please drop it off to the school on Friday 29th before 4pm or between 9am – 9.45am on Saturday morning.
We thank you as always for your continued support.

Nursery Sale

Last Friday some of our nursery parents organised a sale to raise money for nursery. Toys and books were donated and children from nursery to primary 3 were able to come and buy some of the items. There a few items left which will be for sale soon. We would like to thank our nursery parents for organising and giving up their time to run this sale.

Playground Rules

After sessions with the Play Rangers, each class were asked to write a list of rules about using the loose play materials outside. These rules were then collaborated and a list of rules for the whole school drawn up.
Here are our new playground rules:

Get a friend to help you carry items if they are too heavy.
Carry sticks like walking sticks.
Roll heavy tree trunks and sticks.
No throwing.
Always roll tyres into spaces, never at people.
Only stack tyres/logs up to waist height.
Never put rope around any part of your body.
Wagons are for transporting objects, not people.
Tidy up when the bell rings and help move objects to the cupboard.
Look after each other.
Look after resources.
HAVE FUN!

We are using these rules outside to keep everyone safe.

Grounds for Learning

The whole school, from nursery to primary 7 have recently taken part in outdoor sessions with Steve Moizer from Grounds for Learning and the Aberdeen Play Rangers. During these sessions the children learned how to handle equipment safely and talked about risk, and how to manage it.
The loose play in the playground has been going really well with both children and staff enjoying it.
We hope to invite the parents in soon for a play session during lunchtime.
