Prepare a talk for the class

Prepare a talk for the class about anything that you are interested in.  You can use notes to help you, a powerpoint presentation or any pictures or other visuals that you have. You should try to have your talk ready for Friday 9th September at the latest.

Here is a list of what I will be looking for.

1.      Choose your subject carefully – a topic you already know something about, a hobby or collection, a book.

2.      Research your topic and make notes. Plan to make your talk as interesting as possible – consider the use of pictures, diagrams, articles, models to illustrate your talk.

3.      If showing pictures in a book, put markers in the pages with a note of the page number and title of picture to help you find it more easily. Also note these details in your notes for your talk.

4.      When you have prepared what you want to say, take a separate piece of paper and note down the main points only i.e.  headings/bullet points – remember to include an introduction and conclusion.

5.      Use these notes to help you but remember you are not making a speech or giving a reading.

6.      Practise! Give your talk to anyone who will listen, or practise in front of the mirror! Time yourself – your talk should last 3/5 minutes.

7.      When giving your talk, remember to look at your audience. Try to speak clearly and not too quickly. Practising will help you get the pitch and pace right!

8.      If you have anything that can be handed round, keep it until you have finished your talk, as it will only distract your audience if you pass it around while talking.

9.      Be prepared to answer questions on your talk.

Good luck!
