This year’s library book fair competition is for pupils to create their own Tom Gates / Dork diary / Wimpy Kid stylee story – “My weird world”. Looking for another writing competition this summer holidays? Why not enter Aberdeen City Libraries europedirect competition My Europe in Books . They’d like you to write about one of the following, in no more than 100 words: your favourite European Author or Poet; your favourite European fictional character; or your favourite place in Europe to read.
Entries must be accompanied by an entry form which can be downloaded HERE or be picked up from any Aberdeen City Library. All entrants will receive a copy of the project’s publication later in the year. Closing date is the 19th of August. Get writing!
The Hot Key Books Young Writers Prize returns for a second year! The Prize looks to uncover new writing talent between the ages of 18 and 25, who submit their work in either of two categories: 9-12 and young adult (for ages 13-19). I’m currently reading “You don’t know me” by Sophia Bennett . It’s an entertaining and thought provoking book; looking at just what happens to a group of friends when they’re entered in an Xfactor stylee online talent contest and how the power of social media and reality TV affects their lives. I’m loving it 🙂

You need to order your books online by Sunday 23rd June 2013. I’ll accept cash or cheques (made payable to Harlaw Academy) until lunchtime on Monday 24th June 2013. I’ll then confirm that all orders are in and the books will be delivered to school. For every £1 you spend 20p goes back to our school to spend on much-needed books for our library!
