Message from PTA regarding Milk at School

Parents/Guardians

At present the PTA co-ordinate the ordering of milk for those children from primary 2-7 that request it.  This is becoming almost an impossible task with problems arising, a sample of which is below:

  • Payments are often late and not paid in full
  • Children are not taking the milk, even though it is paid for
  • Teachers are sometimes forgetting to tell the children to get the milk due to a busy and sometimes hectic schedule.
  • Children are taking the milk but only taking a small amount out of the carton before discarding which leads to a lot of excess waste for the school.
  • Fluctuating prices of milk during a term which leaves either a deficit or a credit in the Account.

The PTA cannot be responsible for payments which are left in the PTA tray as the tray is only cleared once a week on a Monday.  It leaves us vulnerable to claims of people paying when we have not received either a completed slip or a cheque/cash for their child.

As the PTA are not present on a daily basis it is hard to ensure that all those children who have had milk paid for actually receive it.  All we can do is order the required amount and update lists for the relevant teachers, which we do at the beginning of each term.

After lengthy discussion, it has been decided not to send out the slips for the January term until a decision has been made whether the PTA will continue to provide this service which is only for the 40 -60 children per term who take up this offer.

As part of this decision, I have compiled this note so that anyone who wants to comment on the halting of this service can have their say.

If you have any comment or have any alternative suggestions on a way forward, please contact me on: coletteorwell@hotmail.com

 Winter Weather

Now that the outside temperature seems to be on the way down, this is just a reminder to send pupils to school with suitable outdoor clothing. We will only keep pupils inside at breaks and lunchtimes if there is very poor weather. We will endeavour to have the pupils outside as much as possible. In relation to this, Mrs. Begg will still take pupils outside for PE if it is suitable to do so. We would encourage pupils to have tracksuit type clothing with their PE kit which they can wear for any outdoor sessions.

 Late Arrivals

We have been noticing an increasing number of pupils arriving late for the start of the school day. The first part of the day is when the class teachers explain the work for the day and the classes get settled. We would want all our pupils in class for this.

If a pupil does arrive late they must report to the school office so that we know they are in the building.

 Book Bags

We would ask that the pupils that have green book bags use them only for their reading books and homework. Some of our newly bought reading books have been damaged by juice or snacks being carried in the book bags. We would appreciate if they could be kept apart.

School Uniform

We continue the policy of strongly supporting the wearing of school uniform. If you have any queries about uniform please contact the school office. It is also a great help to the staff if all items are clearly marked with the pupils’ names.

Personal Belongings

I want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that Aberdeen City Council does not hold any insurance to cover the loss of personal belongings. We strongly advise that pupils do not bring items of high value to school. The school will not be able to replace anything that is lost or damaged.

 Security

I want to remind all parents/carers of P1-7 pupils that they must not walk through the school building without reporting to the school office first. This will help us to maintain the safety and security of everyone. If you need to speak to one of the teachers an appointment should be made at the office.
