Our Week

We have had another busy week!

We have really enjoyed working collaboratively with our buddies from P2 and with our new spelling partners and reading partners! We have worked hard on understanding Scots this week which is very tricky! We have also been busy developing our understanding of money and establishing the correct change.

Our classroom is always buzzing with activity (apart from during ERIC time when we all read our own books quietly).

Literacy Homework

Children will be given a new focus phoneme for spelling once a fortnight. There will continue to be a spelling test on a Friday however for now the children can decide how they would like to develop their understanding of words containing the selected phoneme.

We use many different activities in class to support the development of spelling. Here is a helpful list just incase:

  • Phoneme charts/challenges
  • Blue Vowels
  • Vowel Circle
  • Rainbow Write
  • Elkonin Boxes
  • Diacritical Marking

Cinquain Poems

Today we tried our hand at writing Scottish themed Cinquain Poems. Can you follow the formula to create one of your own…

The Formula – Cinquain Poems

Line 1) a one-word title, a noun (a person, place or thing)

Line 2) two adjectives (words that describe the thing)

Line 3) three ‘ing’ verbs (words that tell you what your noun does)

Line 4) a phrase (or sentence about the noun)

Line 5) a synonym for your title, another noun

Example

Cinderella
Humble, Sweet
Working, Dreaming, Believing
Heart full of hope
Princess

Phonics & Skills

Week begging 14th January

This week the P4 boys and girls will be learning 2 different sounds.

Foxes = ore

Badger & Hedgehogs = ai/ay/a-e

They will focus on these phonemes for two weeks. Please play with them and encourage them to build their knowledge and understanding around theses sounds and blends.

CLIC Targets

We will be working on the following CLIC Targets this week

– I can read 3 digit numbers

– 4 x table

– I can swap object &  I can add thousands

– I can solve any 3 digit + 2 digit equation

Try to make any maths work at home as fun as possible – games, puzzles and jigsaws are a great way to start. It is also important to show how we use maths skills in our everyday lives so try to involve your child in this.

We will be focusing on the concept of money during term 3.

Try to encourage your child to identify and use all coins and notes up to at least £20 and explore different ways of making the same total.
