Starling

You can see starlings all year round. Large numbers arrive in autumn to spend the winter here  

Their flight is fast and direct, and they walk and run confidently on the ground. 

Although it may seem that it is one of the most common local birds elsewhere their population is declining rapidly.

Starlings are among the most social of birds, and this is particularly noticeable in winter, when they feed in flocks and roost communally.
