BGE – Social Subjects

Pupils receive 2 periods per week in Geography and in History.

Geography develops skills and knowledge in –

  • Building Atlas and OS map work skills – building on these year on year.
  • Understanding Physical, Human and Environmental processes which affect the world we live in.
  • Contrasting development within Developed and Developing nations.
  • Building research and gathering skills to collect data to make informed conclusions.
  • Organising and communicating information in writing, graphs and orally.

History develops skills and knowledge in –

  • Understanding how to interpret and use a variety of sources
  • Understanding how past events have shaped both Scottish and International societies
  • Research skills, analysis and evaluation of various eras
  • Developing and justifying opinions
  • Creating extended pieces of writing and presentations

Business Admin develops skills and knowledge in –

  • Problem solving and decision making in a business context
  • Enterprising skills
  • Keyboarding skills
  • ICT skills in Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, Email, Ediary, Spreadsheets, Multimedia presentations and Databases
  • Team work for national challenges such as the Tenner Challenge and Design a Sub

History develops skills and knowledge in

  • A conceptual understanding of the past and an ability to think independently
  • Applying a detailed historical perspective and evaluating sources in a range of contexts
  • A detailed understanding of the factors contributing to, and the impact of, historical events
  • Investigating historical events and, on the basis of evidence, forming views
  • Explaining and analysing historical events and drawing reasoned conclusions

Geography develops skills and knowledge in –

  • Draw on knowledge and understanding of physical environments, human environments and global issues
  • Draw on knowledge and understanding of physical environments, human environments and global issues
  • Develop and apply mapping and research skills, knowledge and understanding in geographical contexts.

A Modern Studies unit is taught within S1 and S2 History. In S1 pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of how different governments work and their rights and responsibilities as Scottish citizens. In S2 pupils will develop their knowledge and understanding of what makes countries powerful and the impact of terrorism

Homework will be issued at least once per term.  All homework issued will be posted on Google Classroom.
