Today as part of Maths week Scotland, we worked outside as a team to collect natural materials such as leaves, pebbles, sticks and feathers. Back in the classroom we created designs such as repeated patterns and lines of symmetry using our own materials.
Today as part of our maths lesson we went out to the school playground on a pattern hunt. We found different tree barks, arrangements of plants, games markings, paving stones, brick walls and windows to name a few! Lots of collaboration and creativity!
1~2 Nim
Today we played 1-2 nim which is fun, challenging and rewarding. We were practising basic counting and arithmetic. We started with a pile of counters and on our turn, we removed one or two counters from the pile. You must take at least one token on your turn, but you may not take more than two. Whoever takes the last token is the winner. Lots of collaboration and communication taking place here.
Today we were very lucky to have a finance lesson from Claire at money advice Scotland, covering a brief discussion on the history of money and why we use it. Lots of super activities and discussion around coins and notes along with a focus on other types of common payments.
Today we worked together on a number problem called Dan the detective. We had several clues to help us find the number and all groups managed to find the answer very quickly. Through working in random groups and writing on vertical surfaces all children were engaged and working collaboratively.
Maths; Building, Thinking Classroom activities this week.
We are participating in the local Hobby Craft, Easter Bonnet competition. Some fabulous designs have been created and we can’t wait to hand them in to the shop for judging.
This morning P5-P7 were working in random groups playing a game of reasoned rounding. Lots of collaboration and Math Talk Moves strategies within each group.
