Yesterday we had a super Maths session with the whole school. Everyone was trying different methods to problem solve using addition strategies.

Today we worked on a problem solving activity called legs in the barn. We had to use our addition and multiplication strategies working with whole numbers and fractions. Lots of groups drew pictures, created a table or used the guess and check strategy.

Today in our random groups of three, working on vertical non-permanent surfaces, we were solving our rich tasks. Lots of collaboration and pupil discourse. We also evaluated how well we worked together in terms of listening, sharing ideas, turn-taking, working together and being kind.

This week we have been continuing on with our project on British birds. Yesterday we went on a lovely winter nature walk with our tally mark checklist. We were tracking daily sightings of winter birds in Woodmuir. The children loved this activity and worked together very well. In our lesson today this led on nicely to talking about an effective tool for visualising our data on bird types.
The children came up with bar graphs to display our sightings and whether we would choose a vertical or horizontal bar graph and how a bar graph should look. Lots of numeracy and maths in today’s lesson which we are ready to log in our individual floor books.

Outdoor learning

On Tuesday we had another fun problem to solve in our trios.

Today in maths we used our Maths Talk Moves vocabulary to solve another problem! There was super discussion, cooperation and collaboration from each group. We are developing our critical thinking skills every week as we work through our problems.

A few highlights from our problem solving maths session today! Super communication and collaboration skills.
